Finished up on site here in Dublin on Friday. Foreman expects to be closed for a few months (his opinion). I hope after two months there will be some controlled return to work. The government has been under pressure to build houses and accommodation so I’m sure they really don’t want to pause that for long.
On that though, even without this Corona and economic shift, I just can’t see many of this younger generation in any position to buy their one place. Rents are crazy though so that can’t be sustainable either.

There already are machines for most veg and some fruit..... Just cheap labour is even cheaper once you have shafted them for accommodation, food and transport....

How many folk here have been furloughed and how many feel they are entitled to furlough but are home isolating on ssp?

I’ve furloughed my lads as of Friday, not 100% sure if I will get anything if I furlough myself (company director and only pay myself buttons as a salary anyway) but that’s not the end of the world, I’m just extremely grateful of the ability to keep the guys paid at little cost to me.
One of my guys was off all last week looking after his kids (his wife works for the NHS as a haematologist so is very busy and HAS to be at work at the moment, and the childcare provision doesn’t cover anything if both parents aren’t key workers which is fair enough). He was subsequently off on SSP. There is plenty of work for the other lads and me but they didn’t want to be in and I didn’t feel right keeping running, even though our current work is well away from anyone. At least furloughing them all makes it fair for everyone to be paid to be at home - I had a quandary with the guy looking after his kids as I couldn’t really furlough one and not the rest but he was sat at home through no fault of his own earning diddly-squat.

Went back out to work Friday with 18 tonner after a couple odd days back yard repairing buckets for a big farm grower down here needs to get his extra 30 static vans up and running pronto to help space his workers out and add more so a good couple weeks work there

I put my guys on furlough last week, paying their full pay at the moment. How long I can do that for depends on how long it takes the Government to get the system set up to reimburse me. It also depends on outstanding invoices being paid on time

But I'm currently on minor civils and all work has been shut down so have nothing to do
Apparently you can't chop and change between furlough and working so can't go in once you have started but waiting to hear
