Pasma tower inspection certificate

Anyone on here use alloy tower scaffold? We’ve been asked by a customer before we arrive on their site to provide a copy of the inspection certificate for our tower. We’ve never had any inspections carried out on it and wouldn’t know who to call to have it inspected. Obviously it needs to be in good nick and bend or damaged sections can be dangerous but we just operate our common sense when using it. It appears every day is a school day.

"All towers must be inspected following assembly and then at suitable regular intervals by a competent person. In addition, if the tower is used for construction work and a person could fall 2 metres or more from the working platform, then it must be inspected following assembly and then every 7 days. Stop work if the inspection shows it is not safe to continue, and put right any faults. "

Do you have a competent person available on your firm write out your own inspection sheet...

Training companies, they create these ideas, lobby HSE for it to become a requirement, once a few muppets pickup the qualifications and run with it they then lobby industry and HSE to continue the stupidity.

No such thing as Acceptable risk anymore which is a problem as no matter what there will always be risk!

Boys, stop falling into the trap of moaning about the industry and not answering the original question. Yes people have errected scaffold towers for years and most have been fine. But some havent and nobody wants to get injured at work. If you are working on a big site that requires the paperwork in place then there is a cost associated with doing these extra admin roles and you charge accordingly.
There are plenty of places that run 1 day courses on errecting tower scaffolds and personally @Quattromike I would hire one for a big site. That way the inspection of it is down to the hire company which is another problem you dont need to worry about and should get you past this initial hurdle.

if you can't put a tower together adequately safely, that you're going to have to use, you deserve the consequences .... shouldn't need the Stasi policing it ..

We have the PASMA training which requires the scaffold to be inspected prior to assembly and afte assembly but them asking for inspection certificate makes me think there might be a third party inspection requirement like with lifting equipment.

As Gunners said, if you hire one and tell them what you have been instructed to have they will produce it for you.
My feeling is that they are after the regular inspection records like you have with ladders, which you can always produce yourself on the computer. As there appears to be no legal definition of what a “competent person” is you can always appoint yourself as a competent person, especially as you have PASMA training.

I've just put my dog down as my competent person.... she identifies as a human you see.

Ok I've asked them what specifically they were looking for and they got back to me saying "doesn't matter my colleague says we don't need anything" I must have wasted 4 or 5 hours this weekend trying to figure out what I was needed to do only for them to dismiss it as not required. The most annoying thing is I should of known better
