do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
Just to give you boys something to think about, there was something on the farming forum the other night of someone using 1500 litres a day in his quad trac,so say about £750 a day for fuel.if the rebate goes that will more than double
Nick...
but......... does he really need to run a quad trak??? we might see traccies return to more sensible sizes ??? and see a lot less of the bloody things blocking the roads to a crawl .. trucks are for hauling goods .. traccies are for plowing, etc.

poor farmers will be bringing back shire horses!
might slim a few of the fat f***ers down round here ..... they're mostly 20+stone, from sitting in their mobile palaces all day .... never used to be the case ... were all fit as butcher's dogs at one time .... as was most of the population ... walk around any town these days and it's populated by Sharons/Waynes/Waynettas ..... can spot a real worker at a thousand yards - fit, slim and trim !!

Very rare I've run red diesel, no where local to buy it from a pump.

To be fair I don't use a alot of diesel, the dx10z uses a lot more fuel than my old tb108 but generally five or so litres for the day the htd5 is excellent on fuel and can near enough do a couple of days on five litres, the cormidi diesel dumper (an old c6.50) I picked is fairly heavy on fuel compared to it although to be fair it's revving it's arse off.

The red diesel boxes in plant companies are a rip off and to buy it for your own cans either costs not far off pump price or you have to get a load and it's cash so technically costs you 29% more than you paid for it in tax then on top of that you have the hassle of going across town to get it which by the time you factor in time to do it, fuel to get there and back and then either the not far off pump price or the 29% as cash it's near enough Tesco pump price.

I suppose over the course of the year it adds up but so would all the faffing about

Will it? I thought that was 28 sec, and ignited a bit too quick or something?
Put a bit of light engine oil in like you would a two stroke. As Gaz has said it's got no lubrication properties and burns hotter! I do however use it occasionally to clean the system through on the older stuff ;)

I was looking at a new DC a friend is building yesterday - the site was an ex MI6 transmitter facility, so raised floors, 5MW sub, pair of Petbow Rolls Royce Diesels (715kva) with 1000L day tanks, and 40,000L bulk tanks - each!

Apparently the MOD passed the site back to the farmer for less than the cost of the 80,000 litres of diesel that was on the site!

My friend is keeping an eye on the news, if the law changes he's going to get 80,000 litres delivered!

Are these changes generally instant on the day announced or is there a period of time?

a very good Q Jim ... sometimes implemented within 24 hrs or a week/month/year .... couldn't see it being instant as far too much stock would be in hand around the country, but could see it happening smartish to avoid stock piling .... but if used commercially and implemented on a particular date ... stock piling'd not be sensible ... 'cept for people like me who're not earning with it and have no financial benefit from it, other than the saving on duty

Filled all of my spare fuel drums up today just in case.
Realistically and logically all they're going to do is to move the point of rebate of duty from the supplier to the end user ……. if you can demonstrate legitimate usage you can reclaim the duty. Surely they'll have thought through the consequences of marked fuel not being part of the system , at least I really hope someone has

Well I've gone ahead and ordered 3000 litres, being delivered Friday apparently. If they ban it then at least it's as good a stockpile as most people will have (probably more than a years worth for me) so at least I'll be on a level ish playing field in that regard.

Now we wait to see what joy the Budget brings us tomorrow...

Don't complain - suggest what's better
I had my tank filled today just in case. 3000l should last me about 6 months
