Bedford 6 ton bumper

I have a 6 ton dumper , I had problems with water getting into starter so stripped off , then noticed that had oil and water in gear box so stripped off to clean , when I have put all back and started up then selected forward gear went forward and backwards turned it off and now won’t go forward or backwards
When I push the stick forward on the the column it does not start lie it is in gear
All help will be good

What is the battery like firstly, I presume it has good battery/electrical power?

Assume selection is activated by a solenoid of some sort?

my shuttle switch can be temperamental .. select fwd/rev and sometimes needs a bit of a 'fiddle' to make it contact, after it's been standing ... won't start in fwd / rev .... but won't go either ... presumably two different sets of poles/contacts .. one set to isolate and the other to engage the directional solenoids ..... it's pretty exposed to the elements ...
give it a bit of a wiggling ...... usually ok once used for a few minutes ... but annoying/heart sinking moment initially ... it'll get a new one sometime, when I find one at sensible bucks

Was gonna buy a new switch but thought may as well try taking it to bits first (only 4 screws cover comes off). Basically inside is a set of contacts and a small circuit board lubricated with electrical grease. Over time grease gets dirty with wear on contacts and basically shorts out, clean all old grease out put some new grease in job sorted.

see now why they're such an expensive switch .... will have to do the same to my Thwaites' 6T Alldrive too .... which'd have been the first plan of action anyway
