JCB 1THT Issues!

Evening all!

Looking for some advice and guidance, got a JCB 1THT 2017 so it’s actually a terex/mecalac.

Anyhow not used it for a while, went to start it this morning it just wouldn’t start, turns over but nothing. I tried priming it, nothing, primed it and cracked the fuel filter bleed nut.

Had fuel coming through, great! Went to start it and away she went. Amazing. But then it went into full rev mode, reving its nuts off, tons of black smoke filled the place in no time. Throttle pedal was making no difference to revs, operating the hydraulics put a little reduction on but not much. I tried turning it off and cutting the engine and key didn’t do it, it kept running. Running around trying to find some pliers to squeeze the fuel pipe to stop the supply. Finally got some and it stopped. Nightmare.

So now im in the position of what on earth happened and what’s broken. Checked the stop solenoid and all appears to be working visually. Throttle pedal cable appears fine, and moves the arm on the fuel housing.

Looking inside I can’t tell which way or how much movement there should be on the fuel rail slider. It’s a Kubota D905 engine.

If anyone can shed any light or inspiration I’d greatly accept. Speak soon.

Sounds like a stuck rack 👍🏻 @Mick-the-fitter will be along to help with specifics I've never dabbled with that engine.

I'd second that ...
for future ref @rossandson -- smother the air intake at the manifold with a bit of board wrapped in a rag to help seal the intake DO NOT use the palm of your hand
if it doesn't stop it completely, it'll reduce the revs and give you more time to kill the fuel supply line
