I often find myself doing something a bit different and thinking ‘some sad fk would watch this on youtube’

Then I consider all the effort required to film and edit and think about something else.

I hardly even take photos on a lot of jobs! It’s all routine to me. Maybe with a camera in the cab and AI doing the editing it could work.

Same - much of my work-life is dull as f**k with the odd bit of excitement/interest (usually a cock up!). However, I see links here/other forums/sent by mates etc of YouTubers who seem to make serious money literally broadcasting boring shiiiiitttteee (which must float plenty of boats somehow I guess, as clearly people are watching it?!??).

I think the important bit to remember is they ‘seem’ to make a serious amount of money. I have my suspicions that a lot is smoke and mirrors .

Agree. I think there are a few who get pushed to the top depending what they are pushing.
Look at the government haven't they just confirmed they've spent around £2 million on influencers in the last year

Sometimes id be interested in watching YouTube clips of different stuff but theres only so many hours in the day! We normally chill out for 1hr of telly each night before going up to our pit. Don't think the other half would stand for me watching @Gunners . Saying that me and the boy just watched a few short clips on battle of Hastings as he's learning about it in school. How's your luck we beat off the vikings then got turned over by some bloody frogs! Apparently tower of London was built by/for William.

Choosing wisely you can learn a lot
My two lads have leant a lot from YT and yes Loads of stuff is utter bull .
But Andrew Cammarrata, Mathias, diesel creek etc you can't go far wrong if youve an interest in anything mechanical. Some of the other USA ones are a bit tedious . There's only so many times you spend 50 mins watching someone dig a pond! A also find Murphy's diesel good . Sends a good message about doing good imo. More folk like him wouldn't do any harm.

I like cutting edge engineering. Where it feels like the camera is an inconvenience.

I don't know if they are influencers but I occasionally enjoy a bit of thisoldtony or unchartedx or bcbloc. Found myself watching videos of Bosch P-pump mods for more power from the diesel engine

I dont think we really watch "influencers" more like random folk who are making a few extra quid doing what they enjoy. I've seen a few of the big "influencers" Mr beast etc what utter total piffle.

Watching dirty video's

many, many moons ago did my work experience with a local Civils firm that had 2-3 CCTV vans, spent a day with a crew.. i was warned in advance, that it was attributed to spending there time in the dark..

hmmm, briefly ( say about 5minutes ) considered youtube maybe thought the french thing could be of interest - (I actually put a couple of daft bike vids up a decade ago ) but the idea of dicking about with cameras and editing on a night and getting hooked on how many followers you have seems like it could be a very effective way of eating your time and damaging your mental well-being to me at least.

Went to the oldest house in leicestershire today. Built in 1200 something and "modernised " in 1620 something . Had been lived in continuously till 1960s! Got chatting to a guy there and was asking if the building was as it was back then and he was saying it was. I couldn't believe how tidy it was and how advanced things were even back then. I did mean to clarify with the windows did we have Opening windows back then?! Ill be honest the house looked comfortable although maybe not so much in depths of winter?! Then went to a monastery where I worked on conversion of outbuildings into trappist brewery 8 years ago. Had never tried the beer. Don't drink often nowadays but thought I'd give it a go. Lovely grounds in the monastery.
