tarmac usually more serious but offroad deff more often, although can be quite serious offroad too I guess , i came round a corner on a track and someone had cut a load of tree branches that had fallen across it, but the cut left it sticking into track quite a bit, i came round the right hander and it literally jousted me in the neck ! luckily it was rotten and snapped before it did too much damage 😬

great day out 200kms of tracks - a lot of enduro type stuff - 2 ajp's 1 exc525
bit the french countryside quite hard and the brackets and case for the nav screen didnt survive :)

Got an old ktm 1190r a week or 2 ago - have some bikes and tbf didnt want any more but wanted something to carry a passenger and luggage, for a bit of gravel and munch the miles and nothing I had could do that 🤷‍♂️ went to lyon on a train for it and it wouldn't start 😂 met the lad a week later (when it was repaired) halfway between us :) glutton for punishment ! but but you get alot for your your money with these old mules, they have a following but not much demand at the same time, had it in bits cos it rode horrible, but after a few weekends fettlin, bars,grips,guards,brakes,suspension setup etc im getting to like it :)
me and the daughter out for a few days shakedown before the mrs gets aboard.

if you get a random control that you often get here in france they always check for them and its a hefty penalty - easy on the dirtbike mind, even the big one you could do it in winter but its been nothing but dust that its not going to be convincing just now

Not on bikes IME - they have some forward-facing ones on the peage but they are signposted (and also can’t read a bike’s numberplate).
However, more importantly since we have left the EU they can’t chase you with fines in the UK so it is essentially legal to go as fast as you want everywhere 🤣
(Things are probably very different if you get caught by an actual policeman - I’d imagine a great deal of lube would be required…)

I mean you will come from uk and its still better in nearly every way, but unfortunately its shite too here compared to a few years ago - quite a lot of cameras and uf they get you with a radar(the gendarmes) and your seriously taking the piss its bike scrapped and license gone immediately ie walk home ...
and speed bumps everywhere on tourist routes around villages !

its still possible to pick a path through France and have a nice spirited ride without these hassles but you have got to get into rural less tourist areas (nicer usually)

im running out of time a but but still interested in having a look out east for a country less "developed" where you are free to make your own cock ups, perhaps Bulgaria sort of area, France has definitely gone downhill in the last 20 odd years, I dont understand why countries dont seem to know where to draw the line in respect to control and why the population lets it happen 🤷‍♂️

The problem is that as we become more populated we have to be saved from ourselves. That isn't being facetious. When you get lots of idiots in a confined space they need to be controlled. Whilst a certain percentage of the population will self police. There are far to many that would take the piss without government intervention. It's sad but it's true.

last time I was in France was 2009 and it was ruined ...
first started touring France in '83 and it was bike heaven - stunning A/RN roads and never touched a Peage for years .. there was always so much nicer alternatives
when I ran down to Montpelier in 2009 they'd all seemed to have disappeared :cry::cry:
