Bits from the last few weeks, finishing off the car park at the pub refurb we’ve been involved in and first pool dig of the season finished today.

Impromptu post knocker won't do the breaker end much good but hopefully good enough to drive the posts in

use some bungees etc to keep it pressed against the point

Look closely. I’d be very very surprised.

It doesn’t make economic sense to turn an 8” billet down to a 1” shank when you can just machine a taper fit.

tidy work my ride on is about fooked - those robots seem appealing, someone needsto update its perimeters by the looks of it.

They seem to be improving all the time. Lots now that don't need the buried perimeter cable so easy to remap.
I have a robot vacuum/floor scrubber and it is great. Washes the kitchen and boot room floor 4am every morning and vacuums bedroom, hall etc after we are up. Clever enough to swap from washing to just vacuuming if it encounters a rug on a hard floor and goes round obstacles.
Its not perfect and a bit like the lawn robots relies on regular cleaning rather than waiting until it is really dirty, but as it self empties and cleans and dries the mop each time no reason not to run it every day. Certainly a lot better than doing it myself.

yeah think its maybe 2 pieces was over £500 though!

How do we do our pools here with a wall and foundation? In oz they just seem to dig them out, re bar up and shotcrete the whole thing in 1 go.

Hollow blocks reinforced seems to be standard over here,I know this contractor has done full concrete construction but they tend to be indoor so integral to the stability of the overall structure.
I dug a few in Oz years ago,they were all concrete as you say,might be a weather thing too,

They seem a lot more experienced with concrete over there. Pretty easy to find decent concreters whereas here i dont think its the same. They use it for everything. God knows why they dont use flexible paving for driveways cause most there eventually crack and look s**t. I think maybe they don't have to use sub base as much?

My feeling is the paving is done cheaper (not better) in Oz due to the warmer temps (no ground freezing).
What does destroy domestic paving is tree roots and no one uses effective barriers to prevent it.

As for swimming pools, either steel and shotcrete (on site) or GRP (off site)

I’ve used plaster in ones for first time

Very easy to do

My sparky mentioned them while we were 1st fixing, all parties rated them! Something to look into on the next job!
Apparently he'd been on a job where the customer/previous contractor had tried to fit them after it had been skimmed - rite mess!!

Smallwood rally today… it’s on again tomorrow if anyone’s at a loose end with what to do! Biggest one I’ve been to by far, kids were ruined by the sun so we left at 2, but could have stayed a lot longer! Absolutely packed which was great to see for a small show! Terrible at taking photos on family days out as it’s always manic - but Daytona flyby was worthy !
