So after my birthday, we took the old caravan out for 4 nights at Kessingland on the Suffolk coast. Weather wasn't great, with showers and high winds. Loads to see and do with the right clothing ;)

Then we had a visit and tour of the Lydia Eva

Lovely old wheelhouse

And we did loads of other stuff to spoil ourselves rotten. Local pub and beer, fish 'n' chips, beach walks and ice creams 😎

So many will know that I sold my lovely Mondeo Titanium X project car. Used it for nearly a year as a daily driver and Jack learnt loads of skills on it :giggle:
And last Sunday collected my next project car - a 2015 Nissan LEAF acenta. Low mileage at 51k and almost immaculate. Many reasons for doing this - charge it for pennies, overnight or on our solar; move away from dependancy on expensive petrol or diesel and use it locally as our daily driver 😎
IMG_0313.jpeg

As collected and SWMBO appears to approve

Seller threw in a boot full of goodies including the old wheels :p

Let's get 'fettling' - engine bay before showing 'honest dirt'

Engine bay after a quick clean up :giggle:

So there you go - it was very much buyer beware when buying an older and cheap EV. Did my research and made sure that it has at least 10 of 12 bars of battery health remaining. Very pleased with it.:giggle:

Swap the 13a plug for a 16a commando 😊

It’s what I do!
Here goes my first attempt at a blog on the new forum
Been an owner operator for several years now

Dave Rout is the name and I have a mini digger....
....that’s what told them at a recent BMI breakfast.
Are you going to join us then because yours was the best 1 minute presentation?
Nah, half the day has gone messing around networking with you guys 😅
But, do you know what, I am still getting work from that one meeting.
Don’t advertise just do a good job and word gets around
Only concession is I have a bundle of business cards from Vistaptint (y)

So, yesterday, my mate sends me a text - can you just pop round and dig of the oversite ASAP please?
Turns out after we poured his foundations the brickie wants to start on Monday
View attachment 1813

...so all loaded up ready for a 7am start tomorrow 😳
Simple little job and we will have 2 wheelbarrows on the go to the grab heap about 10m away
Bloody gas main right through the middle of the dig - what can possibly go wrong?
Gotta finish before lunchtime because it’s POETS day 😎
Hi Dave, How do you get on with disco 2? In general what sort of miles does it have on it?

Yep that great advice except.....
......if I do that it reduces the opportunities that I may have of charging when I visit you guys :ROFLMAO:
No but seriously the 'granny charger' draws only 2.4kW - that's 10 amps.
AND here I have installed a BG socket that is rated for continuous use and "suitable for EV Mode 2 Chargers".
So that'll do for this simple little LEAF
And I have blagged a used PodPoint 1 from eBay rated at 3.6kw. The on board charger is only rated at 3kW.
So that'll be another win win

Hi Mick, I sold the Disco 2 over 7 years ago when I got the Navara :ROFLMAO:
But now wish I'd kept it 'cos it was rare rust free rear chassis leg job.
Did loads of fettling to it, including keeping the superb self levelling suspension ;)
Think that it had only 138k on the clock and still drove like new and pulled the loaded Ifor like a train

2.4 or even 2.2 continuously will cook it eventually
Ask me how I know . ..😑

MK metal clad are the best but even so doesn't take much wiggle or wearing of the contact to get warm.

16a you just got so much more metal to metal contact . Can easily .ake an adaptor for life on the road or use a type 2 proper charger . Way better

Fair play. I would like an ev for her daily next time but just so hard to tick all the boxes. Our journey profile is perfect for them. 3 miles a day mon to Fri and odd 30 mile trip on weekends. Could get a small cheap one for mon-fri with limited range but too much ago swapping kids gear

They are great cars. I had the van version and know a couple of people with the car. Lovely to drive and after I got over "range anxiety" I was happy to go on 100 mile trips without any worries. Never charged on fast chargers away from home. Charging on a three pin charger or max 6KW keeps the battery in perfect condition. Fast charging is what destroys it. I would limit normal charging to 80% like phones which again extends battery life.

Do it 🤪
But do yer research first. Buyer beware on FB MP. Go for at least 10 out of 12 bars on the health and negotiate hard but fair. I used Car Vertical to check them out. Loads of rubbish out there. One chap was offering a very nice one that was a Cat S x 3 and wanted top dollar 😬
My seller was a genuine bloke who had owned it for 5 years. Just needed a good clean and service and fettling etc 😎

And after doing my homework, that’s exactly what I’ll be doing 😎

Was it an auto? Not a happy mix being 4 speed. Mines on 138k too and has been a great truck, thinking of parting with it now though. Went all the way up to the lakes in it from Devon last week didn't miss a beat.

Jam before cream!??? Definitely not. The cream is the base and foundation. 😂 Think of it like a pyramid. The biggest quantity goes down first.

Yeah but you would say that living in Devon 🤣 I used to think that but as someone explained to be that the cream is simply the finishing touches to some nice scones 😎

The best explanation I've heard for the Cornish method is in the good old days when the scones came out the oven they were best consumed whilst still warm- the jam acted as a cooling membrane/film to prevent the cream melting.

Just from a logical point of view (with no dogs in the fight/extra toes/a penchant for piracy/inbreeding/wishing for independence etc etc) surely the jam is easiest to spread in a thin layer directly onto the scone and then dollop a mountain of cream on top rather than dollop the cream on and then wipe it back off with the sticky jam knife?
Can’t believe this is even an argument - idiocy of the highest order 🤣🤣🤣

Im afraid you have it wrong with the jam. What you really want a fruit preserve on a scone. They are runnier than jam and can have a dollop spooned on top of the cream that runs and evenly coats everything. This allows you to have the sweetness of the preserve and the slight sweetness of the scone sandwiching the savory cream.
