Anyone run a flail mower / topper on one?

The place I use to work had one on the big 8 series for doing central reservations.
It was ok.
If you have the Avant already and want to cut a little bit of rough grass then it's perfect. If you are buying an Avant to use a flail there are far better weapons. Likewise if you want to do a big area.
Even with the float built into the headstock they don't follow the ground brilliantly because of the lack of centre pivot or rocking axle.
And because they are hydraulic they are not the most efficient use of engine power.
They could also really do with hydraulic offset as the genuine Avant flail doesn't allow you to get massively close to fences.
And in am open cab in summer you get to sit in a plume of dust.

I'd have to agree with the above comments that reminded me that I had tried the collecting lawn mower, which was useless. Then got the ordinary mower 1500 wide which was very hard on the blades. Bearing in mind the reference to Lawn is a little exotic, more a rough area covered with green stuff. Hence the purchase of the flail which worked well around the edges of the fields, but no use on the ditches.

Got me thinking…. Might be more useful having full fat avant over a tractor which doesn’t really do much at all anymore!
If you do go the Avant route, just make sure you get the right size. The dealers and specifications are very enthusiastic about what their machines will do. I was lucky in that the machines were accepted back and just paid the difference for the next one. The rear side weights help a lot, but the stackable weights on the actual back can cause a hindrance if stuck in boggy ground, so I just have one of those with a hitch.
I started with a 528, then a 635 before being satisfied with the 745 in 2013, then changed to the 755i in 2023.

Yeah conversly the big 8 series will run the flails best but they are one hell of a lump. And start to become a bit of an oxymoron when called a compact loader.

bought the exact same one (BTLs) in 2020, but grey frame/brown upholstery, from the same ppl I bought the polytunnel from on Fleabay, at the same time - early coof lockdown .... has been very good and we use it a lot .... very comfy, but not long enough to stretch out on .... has also survived several flights/escape attempts in hoolies .
Haven't put it back together yet this year - frame lives outdoors .. seat and canopy lives in the black shed 7-8 months of the year
beware Jim it WILL take flight real easy

and Routy's right - can bin the destructions

Tbf I'm always amazed where mine will go. But still trailable which was the main thing.
@Grahams I might look at the bag lifter if they make that much of a difference?

One more great attachment. If you move bulk bags get a bag lifter. You can lift heavier and much higher than with forks and it stops the bag swinging about pulling the machine over on side slopes or corners.
what do they look like @Grahams ? any pix?
