i used to wear some cheaper ones, ive bad tinnitus and as a result im deaf in one ear, due to which i now (after the horse has bolted) constantly wear ear protection, even on the digger. At the minute im using the dewalt ear buds, stream radio/podcast/audiobook through my phone and act as a hands free as well so wear you can carry on working while taking calls

I use these all the time, along with the boom mic. Both over the head and helmet mounted types.

Highly recommended. Not silly money, noise cancelling works well with a boom mic (can talk to people whilst operating digger no bother). And the battery lasts ages and is just usb c to charge.

I've got some of the Stihl Advance Procom headsets. Love them. Can connect to others for open mic or press to talk radio coms. Or listen to podcasts or music all day when on your own. Being able to take calls and still work with both hands has offset their cost quite quickly in productivity alone. Especially when Rory goes through his phase of calling me several times a day to update me on Linkedin shenanigans

I was just thinking about noise cancelling ear muffs. I looked into last year but never followed it through but its now one thing I do want to sort.

I don't need nor want blueteeth or connection to whatever. Any recommendations for somthing that fits the bill?

Yeah they're on a par with any other ear plugs for normal use

Yeah they were ok, found them comfy wearing pretty much all day every day. The sound quality was ok but could never get them as loud as I wanted (guess it would be too ironic if your ear defenders ended up damaging your ears).

I replaced the ones in the pic with another pair, they gradually got quieter until they died.

Replaced with Hellbergs which again are ok but annoying niggles like stupid proprietary charger, stupid beep boop noises and stupidly they don't reconnect automatically when you walk out of range then come back.

I bought the Hellbergs as it looked like they'd be good for taking calls while working but I end up downing tools anyway, can't concentrate on more than one thing at a time or I make daft mistakes like running over my headphones!!

I'll probably try a different brand next once I've run over these ones

I don't have (or should I say use) Bluetooth in the truck or any vehicle I own.

If I'm going to talk to anyone on the phone I do it while I've full attention dedicated to it. Not while I'm doing this that or the other at the same time. That way I know what I've said to who I'm talking to and know I've understood exactly what they are asking me. May be strange but I feel that's the best way to deal with calls.

I've had the Hellberg X streams for a few years now. Decent battery life and do everything I need...except stand up to a loaded tractor driving over them . Tbf only the headband snapped!

If you don't want to link them to your phone or listen to the radio you are better off getting a really good pair of high rated ear muff like the 3M Peltor 3. They are very effective at blocking noise and a fraction of the price. Also as they are "dumb" there is nothing to go wrong. I've had this model and rate them highly.
On a side note if you are on a site that requires ear protection very few noise cancelling headsets come with an EN352 rating so will not be acceptable even though in reality they can be effective.

I do zero work that requires anything to conform to any standards

I like like the idea I can dull out the engine of the grab lorry or the digger and still be able to hear someone talk. Also when someone's using a breaker in short bursts and its a constant put on take off of ear muffs.

I’d look at the noise cancelling muffs from the likes of Howard Leight. Shooters use them a lot- you can hear your mates talk but it keeps the gun report to a safe level.

I do most of my phone calls when driving, but try to contain it to the office or colleagues . I tend to hang up before junctions or roundabouts though

I’m terrible for it! I conduct as much work dealings through email as I can, it’s all documented who’s said what and it stops a lot of miscommunication!
