Just purchased a used Snap-on box myself. I was torn between a new SGS or similar and thought that a good used Snap-on was a far superior offering than even a new SGS or equivalent. They aren't even in the same league, but I'm a tight farmer so you wont see me buying a new Snap-on box anytime soon as I don't feel they are worth the £3K new price tag. Hence why a used option at a 3rd of the price is a sensible investment and usually won't depreciate much if at all if kept in good condition. Have one in my van that has had a serious beating and ive only replaced the drawslides on the hammers/large spanner draw. So it was an easy choice for a workshop box.

I find it hilarious that people call them investments, they don't half depreciate badly from what I've seen.

I bought my 40” rollcab and topbox new for 2k about 20 years ago. Would probably get the same for it now. Bought outright no finance. I’ve got a mate who’s spent an Absolute fortune and forever upgrading which I can never get my head round. At least with buying tools theyre actually earning you money!

They can be great buys second hand though. I paid 450ish for my lower box and 350 for the upper, both Mac 42 inch but not matching, in great condition and worth every penny. Had them 7 years, wouldn't sell them for less than I paid.
No way I'd buy them new though

Agreed...played with a lot of other boxes but none of them feel close to snapon build quality.
Dont get me wrong I still fancy a knock off setup for my garage though...for a tenth the price 🫣 literally

No doubt they bottom out. It's the big ones that seem to depreciate badly. There are always a couple of the massive 20 grand setups floating around for 5 or so grand. I still wouldn't pay 5 grand but they never seem that old. That's a big hit I a couple of years on a toolbox

I have a top and bottom Snap-on set, bought the top box new, before i was even out of my apprenticeship. got a deal on it cos me and the other guy bought one together, he had Blue i had black
probably still get close to what i paid.
the bottom box i bought off the Snap-on dealer in Wales 20 years ago, He had repossessed it from a young lad that didn't keep up the payments. Wanted a quick sale and i give him £500. still get that for it today. No way Id give new prices for some of them now adays
But i will say, I don't think any other box would stick the van

I think all you need to do is try and pick up an empty snapon bottom box and then one of the knock offs and you'll see the difference

Snap on? You'd have to be on drugs these days for the tools let alone the boxes..... They have shot there last shot with me not repairing under warranty a torque multiplier..... Apparently it's a torque wrench. Spastics.
Theres a real market for someone to make a high quality aluminum box with draws that suit tools that'll fit in a van/pickup...... and that person will smash snap on to bits long term.

Have you had a box? I've hardly any of the tools TBF and couldn't ever get them to stack up. Hot potato of a topic compared to Milwaukee
but the old secondhand boxes I bought will outlast me.Ref trucks...I think the pack out style plastic boxes are pretty good. Don't quite fit in mine

Yes, along with a Sykes box and another ching chong thing. Oh and a Gordon Box which is double the thickness of anything else but not really practical (small and old). No alot between the snap on and cheaper makes bar the badge...... They all suffer if used in a truck from the draws not locking bar a few of the snap on "Road chests" from my understanding.Have you had a box? Trouble with Pack out's is you have to put stuff away in a very organised fashion which is'nt always viable... I currently have ammunition boxes but alas they are fractionally small......
When the Landy Happens I have vowed to get two long aluminum cuboards made to sit on each side of the bed with built in shelves. Generator with leccy start in center (Up front) and a full length roof rack to carry 6m Pipe and double up as a basic rail crane for lifting buckets/breaker/the odd dumpy bag on the arse...... But tis a long way off.

Interesting...my snapon are at least 30 plus years old and they are built twice as solid than anything else I've ever come across echoing cps comments . Got mildly excited with the Milwaukee till I actually played with it
But...and big but I'm talking about workshop based. A rory trucks probably a different story.

I always prefer Facom tools over Snap-On personally. although my Snap on Mechanics seat has survived a LOT of abuse. Mine has Doug Herbert on the cushion seat.. which dates it.Have you had a box? Look up Toolbox inc. ex MOD/US Army surplus...... Same box but if you can find a complete toolbox they are the best service kits you'll find.

trouble with that is .....it has to be turned on its back for the wheels and everything in the trays plummets backwards - can imagine they'll jam badly once on its side again, unless they're all foamed outOne day...

pretty sure Vevor do a range of those too at about a third of the Peli prices .. just looked and discontinued ... all sorts of others on ebay too
