So at work talk about a new excavator is becoming more serious lately and with a new excavator means new attachments big one being a mulcher as that does make up a pretty good percentage of our work. For a number of reasons we are looking at getting a 20 tonne class machine, though I personally think an 18-19 tonne is a bit better. Today I had a salesman from Prinoth contact me via social media because I posted an FAE catalogue. Anybody familiar with this brand? The guy didn't know what a pusher pad is or I prefer calling it a walking leg. lol

FAE are decent hardworking bits of kit Bert, a Freind runs FAE HD Flails and another has just had a unit mounted on his longreach with fixed teeth for a contract.

Like everything I guess, depends what the backups like over there.

Caterpillar skidsteer mulches are FAE rebranded, and they are very solid bits of kit, if that’s any guide.

Yeah they do seem to be pretty popular in social media Rory I have only seen two that I can recall one was a skid-steer mount and the other was a massive unit on a crawler being used on a new power line right of project. The whole thing must of cost around a million bucks. It's not a for sure thing that we buy a new excavator in the new year but the Hitachi is at 8,000 hours and they haven't all been easy hours and its also not being traded off but a good part of our work is government work and they seem to be able to dictate how old of a machine we can use on their jobs and the one in particular the Highways Department always wants a 20 tonner for mulching work even though its more about what kind of mulching head you have on the machine. There are some more domestically produced mulchers we are looking at and possibly a used 52" disc mulcher that hasn't been used much.
