Is the backhoe loader a thing of the past?

Golly and here I am moaning about going 2 villages away! Which would probably take 2 hrs to be fair 😂
432e was 40k box but it was pre torque lock ect, hills would be a crawl. 432d was slower on flat, can't remember what that was rated at.

One hill near me I used to get 36mph going down...only ever did that on dry days and when I knew I'd got a decent set of tyres on.

I'm surprised there aren't more of these around

A skidsteer planer is around £1200 a day (comes with ro-ro lorry and 2nd man)
The little baby wirtgen is similar.
It's for an 8 hour day but speaking to the operators it usually less than 4 hours.
And a backhoe would allow the bits that are normally broken out by hand to be flicked out by pecker.

Definitely look a more productive tool than the pothole pro that seems to be the in thing.

And can still go be a backhoe when needed.

And not necessarily on council work, plenty of private resurfacing about.

Yep minis are cheap, flippin reliable and versatile. What's not to love.
Bouncing around - always feeling undergunned
The concept isn't dead for me, I'll be back with something that is more suited to my work. According to facebook, I need to be driving one on sticks to really get the most out of one....
Day rate prices for them is awful when you consider the price of replacements, they cost more to maintain, and they just aren't valued by clients who only really know excavators and dumpers - so that's what they ask for. Its an uphill struggle trying to push the backhoe in todays world. But I'm not giving up just yet. On the right job on price - its a seriously profitable machine. I just need to set my business up right, and the machine....
Stuck record still spinning here on the small contractor solution - jump through the hoops and you could be done, never had such a time when i can concentrate on the jobs without all the constant thought of how to organise it best.
Hooktruck and nice jcb 6t tilty full fat
8026 for your odd bits
Transport and kit all sorted (no waiting or roading)
Muck away aggs in

Backhoe money woukd go a long way to that 🤷‍♂️

Seriously considering something like this(CAT310), wouldn’t go tilty as it’s more of a muscle machine for me, site clearance/reduce dig/stone up etc.. my 6ton can breathe a little bit then and go back to doing the jobs it was intended for.. but for the money I’m sure a near new 13t could be had 🥴

I think this might possibly be the one and only time I’ve realised something quicker than you! 🤣

Joking aside- relax mate. It hurts to have put money into something for it not to work out, but it’s better to cut losses and walk away. You or I could always get back into it if ever an 8k bargain like Rory’s came our way.

Could an about turn on mini loaders be on the cards I wonder? 🫣😉

I tease you mate but you know it’s in jest and I’ve always admired how open you are with costings etc. The mark of a man that- one who admits his mistakes so that others may learn. Personally I should never have bought a road sweeper or three wheel electric forklift 🤣🤣🤣

I’m down in Cornwall at the moment, heading over to see Danny and my old LB110. He’s fitted a quick hitch too- done all the tidying and mods that I ever planned to do with it! Hopefully it’s working out better for him than it ever would for me.

Would you not just hire in for the bulk out? They are stupidly cheap to hire.

Wet down here. Be good to see some pictures of the LB110. Thought it already had a Hyd QH? Or has he added front loader QH also?

Yeah that’s more likely the reality to be honest - but I’m a bugger for just using what I’ve got in the yard and struggling with it!
I think the way I tackle jobs will change, ie bulk them out in a week out & then come in with my smaller machines to trim up and whatnot.

I’m not sure that 10 tonne CAT is a big enough step up from your 6 tonner to bother with as an addition to your fleet really Dave - might as well go 13 tonner if keeping the 6 as well.
Yeah it’s abit of a dilemma.. 8ton really isn’t enough of a jump up but I guess there probably isn’t a deal in it to the 10ton other than no kingpost. 13tons are actually cheaper than 8s at auction for same year/hours!

rarely get a blade on a 13 though and can be very handy to have

Wacker at 6.2t doesn't give much up to my kub 8.3t - sure for bulk sort of stuff kubota had more tearout and did better esp as no tilty etc but not enough of a jump and on lighter work wacker pisses all over it with quicker cycle times etc.
If I needed bigger it would be looking at 13/14t ton bracket 👍 any bigger than that and they put you to sleep at the seat ;)
Proctor has often things that would be just the ticket at not a lot of money
