Father in law invented and built these, he was a strawing contractor after serving his apprenticeship at lister’s. Designed and built them for his contracting business but also built and sold them still about 40 working 1 in New Zealand 1 in South Africa.

We tracked one down in Norfolk at wiverton hall

When strawberries went poly tunnel and tables he built a go cart track on the family farm which is run by brother in law and does £700k a year!

Father in laws brother worked for Cummins here and stateside and invented some kind of new turbo which Cummins have a yearly inovation prize named after him

Even though he’s retired he modifies all the go carts with their custom mods

We’ve got the hand drawn patent drawings on the wall

My daughter was invited to a birthday party at that place. Very well organised. She done one lap and didnt like it. I so wanted to jump in and take her place!!
I would be up for a days carting!!

there is, as always, a story attached to that ....

The local ATS lads, were all cart mad ... used to use a local caravan park to play on out of season ... knew them all well - just across the road from my workshop and we always helped each other out with 'problems' .
Steve the ast. manager rings me one afternoon -

" What you doing after work Gra - fancy a trip to Rogerstone look at a kart with me? "

get down there and this guy has two set up on stands in his garage - his race kart and his practice kart ... Steve wanted the guys practice kart which was pretty well sorted, but the bloke wouldn't split them, so i got talked into wanting/needing a kart to go playing with them, evenings/weekends

My first experience of that little rocket sled was round the back streets of Rogerstone at twilight - hoping not to meet anything - yes Dave it seems reeeeal fast in side streets (or anywhere else)

only ever used it a handful of times -- never had the spare time to go play when they were out being silly buggers.
