I Sometimes get into a Bobbing motion with the sticks that won't stop until I let go of them and everything comes to a stop and I start again. I just out it down to my inability to drive an excavator smoothly
that brings back some memories, have had that happened a few times, no particular brand, and it’s if the machine starts is shaking😱...just left me thinking WTF has just happened there🤔😂, but like you say just let go and start again, it was very hit and miss, and seemed as if it had just missed a beat, as if it had just taken some air in or something, but then all was good.

I had a 3CX that did that but it was like a pulsing coming through the handles. It eventually went back to the factory at 3000 hours and got rebuilt. It was a pig of a machine, destroyed a few slew rams as well for some reason.

I saw a vid somewhere of a midi machine doing that 😂 "feedback loop" I think they call it 🤔 bloke gets off it and leaves it doing its thing while he films it 😂
I've been on a few over the years that will do it given chance usually when your annoyed/rushed and with a bit of effort to drive smoothly avoidable.

Evening all,
Any opinions from owner/opps or anybody that has spent plenty of time on the Volvo, Kobelco zero tail machines, 2018 onwards and needs to handle a Engcon as well.

Thanks
We have changed our Hyundai 145 for a Kobelco SK140 last year. Liking the Kobelco but make sure you get a short dipper version for a tiltrotator otherwise it will be tippy over the side. The other advantage is once the Engcon is off you have a better tear out force

We are having a small issue with the Engcon oil flows on the Kobelco and waiting for John Craig to have a look at it. The Kobelco is super quiet and good on fuel but our first machine with Adblue.
We had a demonstration Volvo ECR 145 in the summer for a few days and managed to run it side by side with the Kobelco. The Volvo is a good powerful machine although it had a long dipper and no tiltrotator fitted so not a direct comparison. If I was to buy one or the other I would probably go for the Volvo. Both the same price but the Volvo just felt better built. Having said that the Hyundai was a great machine and ran the Engcon perfectly and plenty of power.
Most machines these days are very similar on performance and it can come down to the small details and what’s available in a decent timescale. having said that we bought our Hyundai new in 2012 as it was £10k cheaper than anything else which was a slight concern at the time but ended up having no regrets whatsoever ever.
Biggest problem we always seem to have is specing a short dipper.......

Will be interested to hear what you end up going for but if you can try to jump on one or two before buying you can make a better choice that suits your needs...

cheers

I've driven machines for the past 23 years, 8/9 of those were on case ,Jcb, cat 180's, all on sticks, you can operate around the machines niggles but when they are doing things that you cannot control it becomes beyond annoying and makes you look as if you don't know how to operate.

That's exactly how my doosan makes me feel. Can't find anything wrong with it but suffering with he same bouncing boom.
Last resort seems to be air in rams. Due the the fact I've never had the boom bottomed out. 🤔

Hi Richard ... glad to see you climbed aboard, after our conversations (y).... look forward to hearing plenty from you :giggle:

My machine didn't bounce as such more a combination of the rate the boom lifted in relation to the stick coming in, when grading if it was slow you could cope with it but as soon as you started to speed up that's when the problems started, the only way round it was to keep the bucket bottom flat to the floor which is not ideal

What made you change from Hyundai to Kobelco and how was the dealer back up from you suppliers, did you have any pin wear issues with you Hyundai, my Doosan was showing a little play in the boom foot pin after a1000 hrs.

Usually hold onto a machine for around 4 years then change. Our local dealer (Young Plant) were agents for Hyundai. They have now merged with Molson who are Kobelco dealers. Always rated New Holland/Kobelco so it seemed like a good move. The dealers also provide a first class service.
At about 250 hrs we had a starter motor pack up on the Hyundai , right in the middle of a concrete pour. Called them at 9.30 am and a fitter was on site at midday.....we are 2 hours away from the dealer!
No play in any pins or bushes even with the Engcon.
We almost bought a zero tail Doosan instead of the Hyundai but the dealer insisted that we would be fine with a long dipper. I suspect they only had long dipper machines in stock and it was too much hassle to source a short one....needless to say he lost the sale!

I'd assume the Doosan was a -3?, I never had an issues with mine being a long stick regarding stability plus when you dropped the Engcon off you still had the reach as I've got a concrete pouring bucket which holds around .6m3, that with the Engcon is to much.
I could see the average opp with no brains could get into trouble but I'm on it 95% of the time, did you have any 2 thoughts regarding the change from Hyundai to Kobelco, when I changed mine I was offered 40k for the 2016 Doosan, 1200 hrs and mint condition against the new 2018 Kobelco which was around 76k,bare stick couldn't justify the big gap at the time, plus the cost to swap the Engcon and the Leica 2d system, got 48k for the Doosan in the end to another supplier.

Yeah I just prefer a short stick and with the engcon brings it back to similar length to the long dipper. We have a lot of hard stuff round here so dropping the engcon off gives you a good tear out force.
We were offered £36K from a dealer for the Hyundai as a trade in, 1300 hrs, mint condition much the same as yours. Was really dissapointed so sold it privately for £46.
Wa going to swap the engcon if no one wanted it but the right guy came along and offered me what I wanted, no quibbles :)

They did offer me, if I remember right around 36k to start with, I thought 48k was about right in the end, if I'd of sold it privately I think I'd of got 50/52k for it however I needed the part ex to help with the deal, shows how much there making on the deal, knowing its history they would of sold it for the same or a bit more.
I assume all of your dealings were with Molson's?

Went for the Volvo which landed today, hopefully this is going to work properly as this will be the 3rd new machine in as many years.
