Insurance advice

Hi guys, great space here long time reader only just registered today.

I was hoping for some advice on best way to approach insurance.

I am a small scale developer renovating single homes and am about to start my first site (4 new homes).

I currently own a Telehandler, couple of 360 machines and am actively looking for a 3t dumper.

I have these stored in my secure yard but will be moving them to the development site. The site will be secure with fencing all around, heavy duty gates and will be blocking entrance with concrete blocks each evening. In process of getting temporary electric on there so I can have a cctv system set up.

I don't have any insurance on them or public liability in place as of yet. I won't be doing work on members of the public properties, just my own. How am I best insuring myself/the business and the plant?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

The most important thing is an alarm system- go with Ajax. It can run off the machine battery, thats what I do.

For CCTV, RuralView mini 360 cam is great and again, will run off the machine batteries.

Speak to an insurance agent!! You still need property insurance in case it all goes up in smoke or someone working on the project is injured.
I use NFU but your first call should be to a broker.

I’ll be keen to hear everyone else’s recommendations for site/public liability cover..
I’ve used self build zone in the past for site insurance & warrenty cover , not for afew years tho.. think we are going to use premier cover for the warrenty side of things now, as my private building control use them so it’s only one inspector.

I have my plant and public liability as two separate policies through fsb
Plant policy literally half the cost that JCB wanted

JCB has gone to the dogs! Used them for 20 years, last renewal they took over a week to come back to me which took me out of cover! Useless

Regards insurance I went with Allianz via a broker in January,never used them before but when some twat stole my Loadall a couple of weeks back they paid out without a fuss and paid me more than I had it insured for.

Regards insurance I went with Allianz via a broker in January,never used them before but when some twat stole my Loadall a couple of weeks back they paid out without a fuss and paid me more than I had it insured for.

rings a bell with me .... either got the house covered with them or my bike insurance, through Footman James - can't recall which and CBA at this time of night to look (NFU won't cover me bikes and usually a couple of hundred quid OTT on the house ) be nice to have it all in one place

I think they are a very big German institute
