With Hoggin I assume you would use 75-100mm of type one , compact then 30-50mm of hoggin?
With plainings, 75mm type one then 25-50mm plainings or Just 100mm plainings?

Id still use 803 if doing plannings or hoggin 75mm first then 50 mm binding layer if it's just light use. For the cost id put down terram as well, as keeps the 803 merging with the subsoil over time.

We use Growan (decomposed granite similar to hoggin) for doing alot of footpaths and that I just put down on its own as it's basically 4"- dust. But rake the top before compacting to make sure no big lumps on the surface

We go thicker on the type one and thinner on the hoggin as if it is deep it has a tendency to turn to mush. Or by preference we use 10-20mm of 6mm to dust limestone.

Perhaps hoggin is more consistent..with the growan paths it needs a bit of depth for it to self bind properly and incorporate the larger stones within the mix.

With breedon self binding gravel which is a favourite of the trust and other Statley homes up here we do 100mm 803 reduced fines limestone and then 50mm of the self binding and roll it not whacker it as whacker leaves loads of marks in it. .
