I’m not so sure, Gra. Look at where the crane stood, and where the stabiliser pads were? And the way it’s sat on those vehicles. Certainly looks like it’s pushed those outriggers in? Despite that not really being possible. But...anything’s possible....
That’s what I was thinking? For the cab to be on the far side of those slabs? Could it of pivoted on the legs, then just settled down on top off everything??...get that there’ll be check valves on the legs for lifting it up, vertically, but would there be check valves for the horizontal of the legs going in and out??

Yes I think those legs have closed in, either during or after the overturn. It’s on those slabs, or whatever they are, and I’m convinced if you put it back on it’s wheels then the outer outriggers would not be in the same spot as they were before.

nah ... them legs can't close in - -they're powered out with rams and lock in place James ..... they should also be manually pinned as well to prevent accidental withdrawal, in the event of a hydraulic malfunction ...... but with weight on there's no way they'll pull 'emselves in

We will have to agree to disagree on this one, it just don’t look right to me. And despite what should have happened or been in place, something’s don't always work as they should or go to plan.

He has an impressive amount of Jib out and no ballast to speak of. Could it have been sitting there for a day or so hence the vehicles parked up next to it and another driver has jumped in not realising the set up and slew round wrong way, over she goes.

There was a crane landed on its side on the A96 outside Elgin last week. Must have hit the soft and pulled in

would say it’s feasible, writing on back of the van says “crane...” possibly fixing a problem? and like you say, another driver jumps in?

reckon it's a Grove GMK5275 ... 200 tonne-er ..... first page pic in the PDF shows the ballast available .. page 11 gives you the spec

I don’t think the blocks it’s resting on are anything to do with the blue crane’s setup (ie spreader pads etc) - they look like ballast for the tower crane it appears to be rigging. Placed close ready for a lift would be my guess.

I have to agree ...... looking at the way that is sat on top of the vehicles that yon riggers have let it come down onto them .... technically not possible .. all on check valves .... unless the ram mounts let go inside the riggers ... or the ports burst

the lack of ballast would seem to me that there are all sorts of issues in play .... mostly operator related

Surely wouldn’t there be some sort of fail safe on the crane to stop it letting out so much jib with sufficient weight on the back of it?

absolutely ....... assuming the guy in the seat is familiar with it ... all these things these days are computer controlled ... but generally reliant on what data is input-ed ... i.e. what they're told is happening ...... new machine on the fleet ???  ...... pretty fundamental error though ... forgetting yer ballast

If it is crane technicians looking at it when it went over I hope they have a good insurance policy:unsure:

I would say some if not all of the safety limits would have an override of some description
