Little crane/hiab thingy.

I have a little crane/maxi lift that I saved from one of my old trucks.

It's old but did the job.

I'm contemplating doing something with it and mounting it onto a chassis cab I've been offered....anyway it was powered by a 12v power pack, same as that of tail lifts and tippers but I want to go down the route of a donkey engine. Of which I've got a nice jcb beaver pack which I'm thinking of using to make it work....any thoughts/ideas or anyone else done similar.

My Fassi hiab has the reservoir built in. The unit (from memory) wants 13 or 16lpm but the 24v batteries and pump only provide 8lpm which makes for a very gentle and safe operation

Google says a beaver pack is 183 bar.

No idea what the original 12v pump produced and I'm sure I wanged it years ago.

Not much info on what the pto kits produce online. Tho I'd of liked to use what I've got available first.

It's somthing similar to this.

Has 3 hydraulic parts to it. Slew, boom and single extend.

Legs are wind up. I think it was rated for around 850kg close in lift.

The beaver pack will work it, but depending on its rated pressure you might not get full lifting capacity.
Speed wise, it would be quite quick, I would imagine, whether its got enough oil capacity as @Steve says.

The power of Google says the beaver has 5l capacity.

I once drained and replaced the oil in the old 12v tank when it was on my old truck and I didn't take 5l.

I think what I'm wanting to achieve is lifting of the big wackers and buckets ect.

In its old set up it wouldn't lift a ton bag up off the ground but it'd slide it off the bed and lower it.

That looks like 110 model? online spec says 2900psi so just under 200bar
It's not one of those. Picture is just for reference for people to gauge what I'm talking about.

It was made in the 90s by an American company who doesn't exist anymore.

This is the crane in question...if anyone recognises it.

The firm on the plate installed it on the truck I removed it from. They told me they didn't when I rang them and emailed pictures of it despite having paperwork to say so aswell as theur plate on it. But the paperwork did say it was made by a company called AIM.

looks a handy little thing ...
presumably the slew is a motor, worm and crown wheel?
you'd want a good chassis under that base plate for sure ...
a winch and a wire would revolutionise it ;)
wouldn't have to rely on sufficient hydraulic pressure for heavier stuff - set radius and lift on the wire - tele in to reduce radius (y)

Yes, it's also got manual slew where you can put an 1/2inch ratchet in to operate it....Once has to do it when the 12v pump packed in.

I kept the subframe when I took it off the truck, its very meaty.

I think what I'll do, is build the crane up on the truck and then test it with the beaver pack before I take it to bits to mount on the truck. Then if it doesn't work for my expectations I can then look at a pto kit.

Just awaiting the chassis cab to arrive which may be a week or 2 away. Its a mk6 transit, he bought it 5 years ago and spent a fair amount of time going through it and sorting out the transit crustyness which they are known for but he's no longer able to work ect ....I've known the lad for about 16 years so I know the story is correct.

This thread is reminding me that I started a long thread about our micro crane trailer build and then forgot to finish it.
