It’s what I do!
Take pictures of the fuel system for me! I think you have the vacuum assisted system!

Mine has suddenly developed an issue. Fuel filter (new one) is filthy so will sort that another day. Odd as I washed and vacuumed the tank out earlier in year and doubt it’s had more than 50litres of clean white derv through since. Starts perfectly, then soon as you give it revs it smokes, then once hyd pump kicks in it practically stalls.

Too much oil ?
No, closer to being low than high if anything. It’s been sat under a dumpy bag leaning over to one side for a couple of months. It’s not knocking.
I’ll have to clear the fuel through before worrying about it. There some water in there as well. Christ knows where that’s come from

Mine smokes and is a chugger to start as no heat on it, but runs clear once warm. I had a stuck hydraulic valve that did similar was £280 for the valve

Wouldn’t go in reverse

Mine starts lovely and usually black smokes like a bastard (oil filled air filter may not help) but this white smoke and power loss is a new thing.

water in fuel - change the fuel filter again

They have a fuel dripper port for excess fuel on top that often the bung is missing from but is generally covered by the thick rubber cover, has water got in there?

dripper or plunger, like a Petter/Lister single for a squirt of oil to improve compression on cold start ?

Not used mine for a while...
has a bit of black smoke, clutch still getting really hot not sure if it's the engine getting really hot or a problem with the actual clutch
Then today it decides to spring a leak from what I'm assuming is the exciter.
Made a hissing and bubbling sound then this dribbled out. Picking a hire one up in the morning, will possibly strip this one down on site and see what misery it's going to bring

I've joined the club today 👋

Got some issues with it of course.

Seller reckoned it would go forward but not reverse.

Starts first pull but won't rev, looks like something missing off the throttle assembly, he's given me the part to fix it. Why he took it off I don't know.

There's no resistance to the forward/reverse lever at all, I'm sure that's not right? Or maybe because it was running on low revs?

Anyone able to help? Cheers

Found this vid which seems to show the issue with the forward/reverse

Based on that, ordered the seals and pulled apart this afternoon, the piston itself is corroded though. How bad an idea is it to clean it up and reuse? Or it's spend another 115 quid for a new one 😒

that looks more like bad 'watermarking', rather than full blown corrosion and should clean up very well - however .. the oil lives the other side of the piston, BTLs so shouldn't really have much effect (much like a clutch/brake master cylinder in a vehicle - oil is behind the piston in the bore) - the corroded/watermarked component is simply an actuator rod - clean it up, re-seal it and give it a go (and give it a good smearing in vaseline when assembling the rod back into its guide)

Thanks for that, cleaned it up and resealed and went back together ok. Definitely working as when I worked it back and forth I could hear hydraulic fluid pissing out of a fitting that had worked loose... tightened that up.

Problem I'm having now is getting it to run. It fired up straightaway when I bought it. Given it a service and it was a pig to get going (maybe air in fuel) but eventually ran them spat it's oil filter out.

I think this was my mistake not tightening it properly but it made me paranoid it was pressuring the crankcase so I've had a good look at the breather system (all good) and put it back together as it should be - I think previous owner had tampered with it.

Now can't get the bugger to run at all. As far as I can tell it's getting fuel to the injector. I haven't taken the injector out but diesel is coming out of the return.

There's nothing immediately obvious wrong and it's only 2 years old so I would be surprised if anything is worn to the point of a non start?
