Hi so my machine is a 2003 or so im told it has been working great for the 2 years ive owned it i stupidly ran it out of diesel and it then did not re start when i put in fuel so i cranked it to much and burnt out the fuel stop solenoid silly mistake and so i put in a new one and then got diesel to where it needed to be this time without burning that out however im now left with a dumper truck that will start but the moment you let go of the key it cuts out it will run if you hold the key over but of course that then leaves the starter engaged so is not a good idea, ive checked so many wires and cant find a problem, the weirdest thing is that it will start even if you push in the red kill switch and it will still start if you put it in forward or reverse which just seems odd to me i thought it should not start if in gear or the kill switch is pressed in any ideas been gratefully received im at a loss and it is stuck in the middle of the garden.

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
solenoid is not holding on the run position on the key switch - either wrong solenoid or missing a connection

It’s what I do!
Does it have two thermal trip buttons on the left hand side of the dash consul?

Druid is right you have lost holding current to the solenoid or the solenoid you have is wired incorrectly for the dumper harness!

I checked the wires to the solenoid the main red wire has 12 v at start up and then there is 2 white and orange wires that have 12 v when key is in position 1 so ignition on

I dont know the answer to your problem but the D905 Engine spec for the Terex Dumper calls for a 17454-60010 Stop Solenoid (3 connectors in plug). Attached is a parts manual. I have an Operators manual on pdf if you want it but its too large to attach. PM me your email and I'll send you a copy.

Ok unbolt the solenoid and try it out of the pump! If you start the engine you can stop it by just putting your finger in the hole and push the rack in! With the key on ign the solenoid is ready, but won’t pull in until the starter is engaged (key to start) to test the holding current, when the ign on push the solenoid pin in with your finger and it should stay in, unless you have low battery volts👍🏻

👍🏻please do update us
We have finally got it working my dad was telling me the wires to the new solenoid don't match I in my infinite wisdom said that don't matter oh how wrong I was humble pie later but it was you suggesting remove the solenoid which I've just done today and it wasn't staying in after start up I suddenly saw what my dad meant the wires on the new solenoid were not fitted in the correct configuration for my machine hours lol I've wasted but I have learnt allot about my machine thank you for your suggestions mate life saver and thanks for everyone else with input also moral of the story check it before fitting 😊 now to remember how it all goes back together

Brilliant, if you haven’t got a bolt left over when back together, you’ve done it wrong😂 the solenoids unless from main dealer could be wired anyway.👍🏻

I have this same problem but has only appeared since the weather has turned cold. I have replaced the solenoid but same problem exists. The solenoid plugs straight into the wiring harness so I assume the wires are the correct way round. I have the original solenoid so I could plug that in to test the wiring. Can you confirm what should happen when the ignition is on and which wires should be live when Ignition is on?

Don't know the machine, but whatever the solenoid does when "not powered" (ie. unplugged or Off position), it should be in the "other position" for all other key positions.

Ok so you have a hold current 12v ignition feed, and an earth, when the ignition is on, and when starting a throwing current from the starter will engage the solenoid, other than that, take the solenoid out the engine will run without it, and you can push the rack closed with your finger.
Check the solenoid operation with a battery and a live and earth wire on the bench, the throwing current has a loader click noise! Mark which wire does what, and then check the dumper wiring ign on and start position.
