plant a different crop that doesn't need such a monstrosity of a machine to harvest then would seem to be the option if the access can not be improved to make it accessible to that size of kit.
TBF the size of some of the ag stuff now is insanely large and way over acceptable width in any sphere other than ag. ... might be ok in large open areas, but deffo NOT suited to country lane access.
as said earlier, have met some insanely large gear locally of late, mostly going way too fast for the conditions ... 's only a question of time 'fore there's a fatality round here

I know a fair amount of farmers who own self propelled foragers,none of them would fit the crop processor themselves,they get a mechanic or dealer in to do it.

had to reverse a good half a mile last week, for a complete lane filler (14-ish ft?) 'fore I could find anywhere to get out the way .... and he wasn't hanging about when I meet him

It's the rear wheel steering though that makes them so bad. A 40k tractor is fine but I remember the first time I took a krone big m down the road and I was all over the place.
Even worse is artic steer. Tm320s with a trailer on is an enormous hand full at 40k. Can't imagine what a 50k 434s is like. And someone round here tows a kit trailer with one.

What needs to happen to tighten up Ag driving restrictions is a bus load on nuns/schoolkids or a single MP to get nastily mullered by a speeding tractor. I am not saying to penalise farmers, but there is currently a massive need for education. Large swathes of the Ag community (particularly the younger ones) have a healthy disregard for rules / speeding / seat-belts / drink driving etc. We had a high profile death of a local lad a few years back (His parents are friends of my parents). He got bounced out of the back window of the tractor and pulled under the grass trailer draw-bar. No seat belt and driving like a loon. Very sad and very preventable.

Follow a farming page on Facebook, they interview farmers in the tractor cab, never seen either the driver or passenger with a seatbelt on once!! Always flat out hauling down the road too.. once youve headbutted the windscreen you put your seat belt on regardless of how uncool you’ll look!!

Talking of head butting window…you’ll only forget to put the seat position lock in on a reversible alpine tractor once!

even if you end up in a ditch .... what utter tosh Aiden ..... that machine was far too big for the location access - end of - black will never be white no matter how much you argue the toss

must be exhausting permanently occupying the higher ground...with the pressure on farmers/contractors to produce food to criminal low prices I'd hesitate to criticise too much....its a bloody hard industry from the small amount I've had to do with it. Stereotyping about grassmen stickers twin cb aerials and double beacons is all well and good, but the high suicide rate in young men talks a darker story.

To be fair the fella/fellette on the chopper is normally the best driver on the company, it’s not one they chuck the 16yr old hot head onto, normally the boss or someone senior.. usual case they will have been asked last minute to chop another field down they haven’t been into before, sh*{e happens, luckily no one was taking a dump in the ditch when he slipped off!

Tractor with 30 beacons on and a dump trailer had no doubt gone wild down the hill while snap chatting how fast s/he was going!

That will be why it didn’t stop as quickly as they expected , empty trailers just slide with brakes applied!

The skill of driving has gone out of the job,everything is so easy to drive nowadays,I never thought I’d say it but passing a Hgv test should be compulsory for all 17 year olds,no car test just hgv.

From what I been told the HGV test has never been easier, On the actual test its all forwards, no reverse, no emergency stop, no gear exercise (auto), no coupling/uncoupling. Besides the physical size, the car test is properly harder

I recently did the hgv test and you are right, it’s a piece of cake.
You do have to reverse and couple/uncouple though (but that’s not hard either!).
(Mind you, HGV drivers are almost all mongs so they can’t make it too hard….)
