Quad mower

Picked up a quad mower for nowt the other day - all bearings have been replaced etc but no engine with it.

Must be worth an engine ??

Had a search but cant find much out - anyone on here got any experience of them ?

do you mean one you tow behind a quad with it's own motor powering it Kevin ?? .... I put a couple up in one of the threads about flails a while back, off ebay, as a possible solution to power issues on smaller machines for grass/flat area flailing .... as Mog, i think it was, pointed out .. be sod all use in the vertical though

I had an MDL PowerUp tow-behind flail mower and it worked well. The nose weight was incredibly heavy though - too much for a regular quad IMO. It was ok on a gator though. A mate has a Logic equivalent and that’s much better balanced somehow.

We had a issue with some Quadzillas and mowers nose weight with speed, lack of care or understanding and ruts / rough ground was causing excess wear in the towbar mount to chassis.

I think Wessex either use Kohler or Briggs engines it should be relatively easy to find something to fit from a broken ride on mower as lots of them use a horizontal engine

Ross ..... I wouldnt want to spoil the job seeing as I got it for nowt - ( I am a yorkshireman ) but yes can you quote me for an engine that would fit, im guessing 13hp or silimar ?

They use a 12.5hp Briggs & Stratton with Johnny Honda being an option.

They'll be a good machine if you can pick up a donor engine at the right money. Not surprised the bearings have been replaced as they often get abused being pulled through rushes or tuft grass, but parts are straightforward and bearings your standard off shelf sizes anyway.

supposidly on ebay people are listing a G390 as a direct replacment to the GX390 this would be £260.00

Sounds good - I need to have a look at the pulley (if it's with it ) and see what shaft it needs.
