JCB`s description differs slightly to construction index`s, it only mention's vehicle length not combination length
It needs confirming one way or another.

As mentioned, any operator who wishes to tow has to apply for the VSO – and a vehicle must fulfil certain criteria to qualify. It has to:

  • Be wheeled engineering plant engaging in the construction, maintenance or repair of public roads.
  • Measure less than 8 metres in overall length.
  • Have a wheeled trailer that complies in all respects with the requirements of the relevant 1986 Regulations.
  • Be unladen; be carrying excavated materials having completed the construction, maintenance or repair of a public highway; or be returning to collect more material.
  • Be being used solely for the carriage of materials and tools required for construction, maintenance and repair of public roads.
I read that as 8m for vehicle only 👍

the up to date C&U regs have disappeared off the 'net .. was looking for them the other night and it said you now need to apply (and pay for) for a paper copy of the whole thing from HMSO

"The new rules apply to England, Scotland and Wales"

I read that as "Paddy will sort himself out anyway" 😁

BIL didn't come empty handed the other day ..... brought me the remains of his pergola ..... his contribution to the wood/kindling stocks
filled the little trailer that goes behind the Countax (which has developed a flat tyre - one for later), to over flowing ...
so it all got chopped to suitable lengths ...... and then a lot got 'chopped' up with the axe and had a few bearers out of it all too

filled three of these ... WP_20240814_20_55_23_Pro.jpg an old water header tank I had sat and a.n.other smaller box ... also contributed quite a bit to one of the block bags I've been filling quietly with gash.....

just a few bits left last night to 'dismantle' and got them done late morning after returning from an early start with Russ down at Ponrtrilas - again - lifting the de-barker back into situ and it's associated guarding ..
away by 10 o'clock this morning:giggle:
