Buying my first ever machine.

You will need to specify (in writing by the sound of your dealers!) ‘two double acting joystick controlled proportional auxiliary services’.

The hitch lines are only for the hitch.
Got it thanks I'll triple check with both parties that everything needed is on the machine out of the box. For some reason my engcon rep is insisting that a machine over 2.7ton should have a ec04 on it and not a ec02 which I think could just be them wanting to sell the bigger setup or maybe another odd system we have going on in Aus when it comes to tiltys but It's a bit annoying because the ec04 comes with S40 hitches and weighs almost 30kgs more which I would rather not have to deal with.

Just turn round and suggest you won't have it unless it's that. @Gunners will tell you why but the 04 on a small machine will only disappoint from what I'm told. Your the one spending the money.

That’s normal these days I think. Plenty of older setups running s30 no issues though, and I ran a separate 30mm system on my 2.7t for years with no problems either.

I think you’d need to order the machine bare stick and order the hitch and buckets separately to get s30. I had to get @CPS to make me a custom s30 hitch for my e27.

It’s not that simple, the castings they use for s30 are too compact to accommodate the pin centres for larger machine a

You want to go for the lightest tilty possible on a small machine IME.

As long as the machine QH can be built to S30 that’s all that really matters.

Engcon have a thing against the smaller hitches on 2.5+ or so ton machines. As said @Gunners knows more but I know of a couple that supposedly have hideous setups because there machine has a S40 lump for zero reason at all

hmm yeah its a bit annoying that they are trying to push the ec04 with S40 when im not even gonna be getting a grabber attachment which is the only reason i would want to get an ec04 over an o2. Also the S40 plus the 30kgs from the 04 is gonna add a lot more weight which kinda makes me want to just tell them either i get the lighter one of I wont get one at all.

Definitely only a ec02 on a 2.7t zero swing machine with S30 hitch, I’d hesitate to even fit a top hitch because of the added weight and go with Engcon’s buckets, don’t be tempted to use cheaper locally sourced buckets for the same reason. Weight is the enemy and Tiltrotators are generally tougher than people imagine imho.
ec204 s40 might be ok on 3.5t zero swing machine with short dipper and additional counter weight.
I had my R1 Rototilt S40, on a zero swing Volvo ecr25d initially and it wasn’t a good experience, changed to the ec27d with a bit of tailswing and works very well.
All the potential advantages of having a Tilty can’t be used if the machine is bouncing around all over the place!
Sounds as if you are suffering from a lack of experienced people in the industry the same as we were a few years ago. And I can’t believe the lack of choice in machines available.
Also I would try and get Engcon to put you touch with any customers they have supplied similar units to ?

Hey mate thanks for all the very helpful info. I have purchased a truck now so I know my max towing will be around the 3.3-3.4ton amount so based on what others here have told me I have been looking at machines with a bit of weight on the back like the Kubota KX033-4 but even with a bigger machine from what i have seen from guys like @Gunners I should still be going for the ec02, I'm planning on going with a direct mount SSO setup that would remove the weight of another HQ on the top of the tilty. The dealers here are definitely still very behind on the times as they all talk like they have never seen a tilty in real life but are all very adamant that one wont work on a 2.5-3.5ton machine which is pretty bloody frustrating to be honest.

Max, welcome btw.

Have you looked across at NZ dealers?
Seemed to be plenty of decent looking machines about when I was there in April
😊
I know shipping etc but thought might be worth a punt

Hi @MaxC I have run an EC02 on a JCB 8026 for several years now and have been really happy with how it handles it. The EC204 is a lovely unit, but in reality is quite a bit bigger than the 02 in all directions, and then there's the weight as you mentioned. I really would push for an EC02 on the kind of machines you are talking about, especially with them being zero tail. The EC02 can handle machines up to 3 ton no problem and Engcon in the UK warrant them for these machines too.
As for control systems, its been talked about a lot on here before and should be searchable, I have also made some videos as to why I went with my current setup, advantages of different control systems and how I was getting on with my choice a couple of years later (made over 3 years ago now!) You'll find them on YouTube easily enough.
Keep us updated with how you get on. Even if you don't go down the tiltrotator route just yet, its worth getting an S type hitch and buckets with your new machine in place of a standard pin hitch - the reduced build height and hitch wear are reasons alone - plus it will make it much easier and cheaper when you decide the time is right to get the tiltrotator. Good luck!

Check my "tilt rotator questions" thread there was a lot of advice on there from the guys here

Hey @Gunners thanks for the input mate, Your 3 videos on your ec02 setup about 3 years back were pretty much my introduction to tiltrotators because at that point I had been operating on and off for years and never seen or even heard of them, Like with most things here in Oz we get things about 10-15 years after other countries and tiltys are no exception. Once I lock down the exact machine I'm going to go with I will really push my Engcon guy to go with a ec02 and S30 system if possible because as has been pointed out the 30-40kgs difference is a fair amount and because I wont be getting an attached gripper the ec04 really doesn't seem like the right fit for me right now.
