Is the backhoe loader a thing of the past?

The play in the extending dipper on that terex is an easy fix up at the top end of the dipper nearest the boom ram there is a plastic wear plate and at the bucket end of the dipper there is a plate each side with two spaces for an almost 50p shaped spacer these take up any play, Funnily enough I found that terex this afternoon glad you reviewed it for us! You could have a look at some project 12 3CX machines you would want a Turbo though the non turbo machines are pretty slow, I have always found the project 12 3CX a bit heavy on the rear end the boom and dipper look vastly over engineered but nice with the rams slewing rather than the old rack type. Decisions decisions !!

Those Komatsu machines used to be Moxy i think they look like a nice sized machine.

When I first had a go on JCB pattern I looked like I'd never driven a digger before total embarrassment. but after 30 mins or so I found it started to get a bit more coherent- it's just developing that muscle memory I think. Interestingly chap who I was with at the time had hardly ever driven a digger and was probably quicker to take to it then I was as was constantly fighting servo muscle memory.

100%. Be a great farm machine. Dunno if I'd be up for much roading in something like that- what are the brakes like on these older backhoes. I'm still suffering PTSD from roading old Zetors with dry brakes

I`ve done a little bit with a Komatsu backhoe, and don't remember anything major to put me off one, it was on sticks and I`m sure it was X pattern, which for me was a good thing.

I had a standard 1987 655D turbo stanard front bucket and rear dipper. They are a nice machine but have a really long bonnet and the straight loader arms are not to everyones liking. Good machines though.

Perhaps the extra functions are available on a subscription / software upgrade.

Did a lot of hours on 555c ,similar age to this,damn good machine but to be fair you might find it a bit dated in operation compared to the case you’re used to, the thing would push forever and was brilliant for front end grading though.

am I missing something or is this not better value? Not that know a great deal about them

Spoke to him today. Allegedly he doesn't know how to use his phone to reply to people. Managed to find his number on another listing. He reckons its 8 or 9 years old (not 2019?) and on sticks with low hours. 2 brand new rear tyres and owned for last 14 months. That is all I could find out. I THINK he said hes had a 'bit' of a stroke so may explain why he was hard to understand.

Found a few pic of my 655D Turbo. I picked it up for £4500 twas a cheap digger. Someone mentioned brakes, I found them pretty good they are adjustable on threaded rods done from under the machine much like the older Ford tractors.

I gave it a tickle in places but only on the rear legs inside of the boom and dipper round the cab steps and the front bucket. The rest of it T cut up and polished, All of the decals were the originals, It hadnt done much work and was really tight on its pins, I could'nt believe my luck when I went to look at it.
