Is the backhoe loader a thing of the past?

I'd like to swap my case cx75 for a tidy backhoe but slim pickings. Increase budget to £30k and alot more choice
that one in Bray Shop was low hours and servos and 18K. External dipper - should grabbed it…. Or was a 1999 too old for you ?

What's your cut off for age then ? (Talking machines still)
Depends really. Think would be nice to have something post 2010 for backhoe. Few years older would be ok if tidy enough. I have an image to think about (🤣), nothing against older gear at all especially if on your own ground but to go out jobbing with it I think it needs to be relatively up together and modern looking

Yes... doing your own stuff is one thing.. but charging out another. Both my forklifts (actually I have got 3 now!) are all old. 1982/1999/2003 and perfectly fine but not something I'd want the paying public to see.

Yeah definitely a mentality thing. An old machine can earn money and do the job just as well as new stuff. But think if your taking good money theres an expectation of professionalism and turning up in a machine that blows hoses and smokes out the customer doesn't quite fit the bill.

John is usually on the money with his prices  .... keeps his ear well tuned and buys/sells a lot of BHLs
When compared to the auction NH I put up last night which didn’t sell for 15K or meet reserve , the one you linked is From a dealer (so some limited comeback I assume) and on servo and 3 years newer and 1000 hours less…. Seems a fair sensible price TBH.

I bought my case from Barnes plant- were good to deal with. Not sure what's happened to the engine bay panels on that machine though...

We are awaiting the outcome of that one from Stroppymonkeys...
Well I had a day booked off today as we were supposed to be staying out last night after Jimmy Carr in Truro. Had to come back for the wife’s work so I had flexible day. Got a few hours work done and some bits. Went over and looked at the JCB and Terex . It’s a local dealer with good reputation. Chatted to them before a few years ago as one of my lads wrote off their brand new triple axle plant trailer with the front end of our best van 🤣 (mostly our fault). I digress.
Had a play in the old 3CX. Only showing 2500 hours and it’s sort of believable… Nice starter and not too sloppy on the back end apart from the slew being a bit drekkly. Anyway I’ve decided old (X-Pattern?) sticks may not be for me 🤣🤣
Terex was nice enough in good honest condition apart from its been sprayed up a bit so maybe a 1 gallon refurb! Didn’t really fall in love with it for some reason, it drove really nicely with poweshift and such a tight turning circle for a big machine, but I couldn’t find a sweet spot for revs on the back end. Either trying to stall or a bit too lively. Seemed to have a lot of play/twist in the sliding dipper. I preferred the feel of the 590 if I’m honest. Also comes with a pretty poor selection of buckets, think the last guy kept them on trade in. A 3ft toothed bucket/bulker? looked okay, rest are nearly scrap.
Plus points. Hyd Hitch. Low hours. Servos. Good condition and local. Down sides, tyres not great and needs a set of buckets, didn’t love it straight away, probably not a fast one to move on when it’s time to sell, and it’s not yellow.
