Is the backhoe loader a thing of the past?

I can’t speak for case controls but on the jcb servos there is an override button in the back of the joysticks which allows you to control when facing the wrong way. Press and hold. Very handy for grabbing gravel etc..
Probably was .. just couldn't find em.

Well…. Took a look at the 1999 SLE ServoPower today. Pretty nice but I’ve passed it up as he’s not interested in any PX or discount and reckons he’s got someone happy to take it for 18K. It needs little doing apart from a bloody good service. Tight in most places apart from the slew rams centre pin (whatever that’s called) and got ALL the toys for a 25 year old. 3 speed hydraulics/auto bucket rattle/bucket to dig/auto bucket positioning for rear work. Steering wheel wouldn’t stay up so catching on the joysticks. Very nice machine all in all. The one bit that would annoy me is having everything on the seat means you can’t move the bucket without facing forward, and you can’t adjust the legs or anything like else on the back unless facing backwards. Unless there is a function for overriding that I have missed?
Someone will be happy with it, got plenty of life left in it .
Will you be venturing to Truro to look at the other one?

Are you only thinking of a Case, there are some tidy older NH and Terex machines about from time to time, well worth considering .
Whats thoughts on Terex 880? One local to me I might look at. Perkins engine but what's the rest of it like for parts compared to JCB/Case?

If work dropped off I would get rid of my jcb and look for another older machine,Terex 860,880 or New Holland lb100,110 would be my choice for value for money.drove a very early MF 750 for awhile, ( one of the first) and it was brilliant compared to the Ford and JCB I used regularly.

The 880 was a bloody good machine until it got Mecalac’d. A good few years back I went to India to the Terex factory. They had a UK built 880 on trial, over there they produced the (if I remember correctly) 780, with a locally produced engine, which sold heavily in India and the far east. Despite being Terex the 780 had very little in common with the Coventry machine. I went to do an engine swap on the 880 as the original engine was required back here for inspection. After I’d done, a few of their engineers had a go in the 880 and reckoned if their machine had the same engine and transmission, you’d never have heard of JCB in the far east. So yes, I’d have no problem dropping money on an 880 if I was into backhoes.

For a time if you went to Coventry to the Terex factory, you could see the same machine going down the line badged as Massey Ferguson, Fermec or Terex.

What engines did they have @Bri963 ?
I always rated the Perkins 1000 in the pre 2006JCB’s , and only ever blew up one of the jcb 444 engines 🤦‍♂️ but no problems other than that!

At that time the Darwin, which was an updated 1000 series with different head and pistons and a Delphi pump. Earlier ones I think (going back nearly 20 years) had the 1000.

South west water up until recently had a Terex 860 which they used for cleaning out the leats across the moor- pretty soft going ground in places. They liked it because the front wheels were wide and it didn't bog as easily. Spoke to op and he said it had been a good machine

Any know the difference between the SX and Elite? Both have same power but Elite is 200kg heavier.. beyond that the Internet isn't helping me!?
