Hi. Got a small welding job to do where not practical to drag a mig to. Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent portable inverter welder suitable for welding 6mm steel together?
X 2. One of these is my go-to at work. I tried a Fronius recently and the ESAB knocks spots off it.plenty of cheap ones but my money would go here on something like this.
bet you'd flog it for not much less on ebay after.

I’ve had a couple of Thermal Arcs at work, and have the older version of th Parweld at home. The older Thermal arcs weren’t too good off a generator, which was why we bought the ESAB, but if that’s not a requirement for you, there’s not too much difference in how they perform.+1 here -- newer version of my Caddy -- been faultless for 20+ years and has done all sorts for me -- been using mine all day today
Thermal Arc or Parweld are also worth consideration

Well thank you all for your input. I’ve ordered the ESAB that lancs lad recommended at the start. Another vote for r-tech, I have three. Backup is great.I have an r tech one and would thoroughly recommend. The welders are at the better end of budget but the service is brilliant. If you order over the phone they will throw some consumables in or give you a bit of an upgrade. I got 3 meter leads thrown in f.o.c
Well. Esab ordered and paid for. No show after 7 days so contacted them. No stock. Expecting a delivery. Hoping to receive stock mid to end of August. So 7 day wait for a refund and I’ll look at some of the other suggestions. I don’t know why they wouldn’t contact at point of order to say no stockWell thank you all for your input. Why advertise special offers on stock you don’t currently hold? It was a good deal but I can’t really wait a month or more to get the job done as summer might be over by thentried anywhere else, like a welding supplies dealer ... that is bloody annoying![]()
RTech ordered. Next day delivery promised. £30 cheaper than ESAB. Fingers crossedWhy advertise special offers on stock you don’t currently hold? It was a good deal but I can’t really wait a month or more to get the job done as summer might be over by then![]()
