Recession?

Not a subject I like the idea of, BUT from what people are saying to me it seems to be on it's way

Big Demo Boys seem to be after the little jobs which is'nt a good sign. A few earthworks contractors I know reporting that the phones stopped. And several builders I know of are concerned about the next job once there finished where they are 😢

I wouldn't like to be in the shoe's of some right now with big finance bills and machines starting to become stood.

Anyone elses opinions?

It’s happening guys! I have seen the uk market completely collapse this year for plant. We are selling odd ends here and there but am being offered more and more kit each day now very very fresh stuff as people try and cash out. Auctions are all over the place and despite the fairly cheap pound even Europe are not buying.
The uk news is dreadful mainly highsteet failures but it’s just a sign of big firms seeing how hard it is, every single last person I speak with is saying the same pretty much, uk government is the cause as the markets have stalled on brexit for 1.5 years.

We also used to sell on average 3 quad bikes a month, down to 2 in the last quarter. Have seen it with quads before they drop off when the market it’s uncertain the last big time was around the referendum

There must be some building work happening somewhere. I can’t find a builder locally to do the extension on my house. They either don’t ring back or are booked up past the middle of next year.

ditto round here too ;)
Rory .... put a lid on the R word mate ....
****ing media were responsible for the last major crash, to a large degree, IMHDO ....
things had slowed badly, but were still trickling along ..... 'til those bar stewards started shouting the R word and BANG!! .... absolutely everything ground to a halt overnight :( and the whole bloody world went into freefall

..... that they're way too complacent and failing to recognise their competitors on the 'net are slaying them on price, service, etc. ..... Thomsons are a classic case in point ... selling from brochures when everyone else is selling from bar codes and animated screens  :( ....
high streets are seen by many these days as display areas .... suss it there .. and buy it on line at a lesser price, delivered to your door ...
the major supermarkets have sussed it and're cashing in on armchair shopping .... was in Hereford yesterday ... like a ghost town ... empty shops everywhere and those still afloat were obviously on the edge .. minimal stock levels and more staff than customers ..... 's the way it is
and the ****ing media thrive on the doom and gloom stories ..... you never see any 'good' news ...... they'll have us all in the s**t again ... first chance they get  ......... and don't they ever try

money's too cheap and far too easy to borrow Ross .... and folks have dug themselves into big holes, often with very short sighted planning .... the euro is not that good against the £, ATM .... has been a LOT better ... but then so has the pound :(
no question that the ****wits in power have caused massive difficulties through all the obfuscation ...... they should all be shot ... sacked at the very least ... with no 'package' ..... the b'stards never expected the result they got and have been fighting it ever since, instead of listening to their electorate's instructions and getting us the fk out of the fiasco that is the Eu .:mad::mad:

......and .... the media should report the bloody news ... nothing else .... not sit there analysing it, pontificating with their BS opinions, creating more s**t than there actually is .. just tell us what's been happening and let us make up our minds about it all ...... and not be spoon fed utter bollox, spouted by grossly overpaid people, who rely on talking utter bollox, for a job

We are already being beat up on price on machines because the pound 🤔 it’s not a bad thing it being high at all but it will limit exports and reduce prices again. The issue is there are very few uk buyers to soak up what they don’t buy

Even the IMF can't make up their mind- ie. they don't know s**t!

I agree with Druid- the media have a lot to answer for.

I'm pretty sure my business is as recession proof as can be. Sub 1k/month in finance costs, two brand new machines and one with plenty of life in it, loads of interesting tools and toys all paid for, and most importantly the skills to do almost anything with them. Plus a pretty good customer base with a mix of commercial, charity and well-off domestics. Only one employee.

Flip side of all that is, when is my chance to make some real good money going to come? I started my business in the middle of a recession FFS.

Haha we just officially came out the other side of austerity a few weeks ago. Nice to see they can at least clear up their last mess before the next one starts.
Much more of that and I'll seriously consider f/ing off to Oz.

you should have a fair idea of what 'tough' is then ;)...
I rode out the recessions in the eighties, nineties and the noughties, mostly by making hay when the sun shone and following the squirrel's example of having a fair stash of nuts, for when times got harder, as they almost always do.
Then me bloody body let me down and 'the stash' helped survive that and all the s**t involved in sorting it and dealing with disposing of me biz and premises, whilst the local authorities milked me dry, as they ****ed about not giving my buyers consent for nigh on 4 years:mad::mad: ......
moral is ... be prepared and have a nut stash .... anyone running on other peoples capital are gonna be the first to go and deservedly so ... the survivors are those who're prepared and not overstretched beyond the limits ....

Couldn't you have sold as a going concern @V8Druid or no buyer?

Personally I can’t see it, we have fingers in many pies and other than the plant side of thong and everything is on the up in other industries that I’m involved with. Prices on used gear in today’s euro auctions have settled I know , but they have been overpriced in the last few years - the HAWK auction was prime example of silly bidding!!

Media responsible for a lot, they had a big hand in the collapse of RBS panicking everyone to pull all their money out was only going to end one way, although to be fair bankers are a complete bunch of wankers and hold the biggest blame
