I'm like a pig in s**t this week. Best holiday ever. Rather be doing this than anything else.

Helped a mate out for a couple of days in the summer a few years ago doing some drainage, was nice to get a break from p&h work. I wouldn’t mind doing a bit here and there if I could find someone local and my own work was quiet!

Last while has been preparing for seed, seeding, finding some absolute brutes of stones…f**king my stone burrier☹️ A good old heat and beat to get the rotor straight again! Along with some welding and a homemade seal kit with gasket paper, instant gasket and O ring cord😂

Is that just the stone burrier or been harrowed as well. Leaves a nice finish, we used to have a 2.5m bled stone burrier made the 180hp deer grunt in hard ground worth out a creeper box. But left a beautiful fluffy till for seed

just the stone burrier, any lines raked out of it, then a quick run over with a leveling board to smooth any humps and bumps and seed job done

Like a bloody headstone! Just had enough earth skimmed over it to hide it and nothing more maybe a 2 inches of cover and no distance of the path round the house….didnt realise the shear quantity of dodgy digger work until I did this seeding work!
Lucky you, I'm trying to dig deep enough to find some stone so I can try and bury 1000 tonnes of clay. Swap you!

Slate delivery guy had truck issues so we had to get materials ourselves and access round back is 2 slates at a time with 3 tonner.
Anyhow progress is quite steady as there is no plan etc but pleased with how its looking.
Gets planted up and softened back should be great.

Yesterdays job was bittersweet. A funeral for the lad who’s worked for me on and off the last ten years and full time the last six months, who I’ve known since he was 15 and came down the yard looking for work. Such a wonderful lad, would help anyone but sadly couldn’t help himself or ask for help 😢

This is on top of another lad taking his own life a day apart. He worked weekends on my landlords farm. Both smashing lads, both cases unrelated but Jesus it’s hit the farming community hard.

We gave him a great send off. I had the churchyard looking great, we had a convoy of thirty trucks follow him. I drove ahead and stopped traffic (with his wide load sticker that he used to love using) whilst the convoy took the back roads that he used to love to the church in the village where he was born.

The sun was shining, I gave the eulogy and then we went to the rugby club and then the pub where I got disgracefully drunk.

f****ng hell man.

Done your best Doob 👍
They reckon it's 3 a week in farming this brings some reality to those figures.
Unspeakably horrific and something needs to change in an industry we litterally can't survive without.
