The morning of the 6th.
Often ponder what was going through those lads minds as the LCV hit the beach . Thousands of miles from home.
Few decent pics.

Nobody? I’d fight like f##k for my family and friends. Don’t think I’m the only one.
trouble is Bri, we're not of the generation who'd be called upon to do it and as Doob says, couldn't see many of the current generation/age group that did go off then, doing it today -- if any :(... hell most of 'em won't get out of bed in the morning and do a day's work FFS

Think basically we've had it all too good the last 50 years, slightly ironic that probably a situation afforded to us thanks to the WW2 sacrifices . But I'd like to think if our backs are against the wall again there would be plenty of folk come out of the woodwork?

I think the trouble could be the cynicism against our own government and world motives plus prevailance of information/social media. Just seems like everyone knows best these days and has strong opinions with the result being the common good has gone..

Isn't this a quote on someone's signature on here

Tough times breed strong men, strong men breed easy times, easy times breed weak men, weak men breed tough times.

I do also think there are plenty of people of every generation that are hard working and will do whatever is needed. However they are busy getting on with life and are drowned out by the minority that shout loudly.

I think it's disingenuous to suggest that. As stated elsewhere I'll be off to join the R.E if SHTF
let's be fair though Rory, you are an exception to the general perception ... "most" was the phrase used

To be honest I don't think I am. Just the situation hasn't arisen yet for many to show there colours .

Big difference between those that join the military to march in peace time and those who join to fight in war time..... Loads of examples of this from WW2, Jake MC Nasty etc.

you only have to look at how difficult it is to find good, (or any), labour, to gauge the enthusiasm, with which any suggestion of 'going off to war' would be greeted ...
MOST are too bloody idle to earn a living, let alone fight for the system that mollycoddles them

In real terms though my generation fought in Afghanistan and Iraq stepped up to the mark served and died.

You older lot spouting about how great your generation is and how bad the following ones are had what the falklands recapture operation and deployment to Northern Ireland and Germany with nato?

I bet your previous generation sat there bemoaning you lot, no males sit there and are like oh there as good as us because we all suffer from fragile masculinity and wont to believe we’re the peak of maleness.

we wont really know until it happens

Agreed...and dare I say it COVID did show a bit of that spirit ...I know a few firms and a lot of folk who did some pretty remarkable stuff donating kit and time etc ..that incidentally you never hear about now..

We have always been told that future wars will be different and it 2 big bangs and game over etc...ukraine had taught us differently ...very much back to basics in a lot of ways with a few modern twists....like cheap drone bombs etc.

Bigger threat right now as we all know is the army within....terrorists nutjobs. I think if we ever knew truly how often M15 etc stop such stuff wed crap it a lot more. Regularly we get house raids up here "terrorist activity" hardly hits the news now 😳

Whilst we moaning about generations...what about the older fools who have screwed us over a barrel with unchecked immigration etc...last time I checked house of lord fekkers were all nursing home age...

agree, but look at it from their point of view. Why should a young 18 year old lad want to fight today when the best they can hope for working an average job is renting a shared house with three other men and maybe an OnlyFans 'girlfriend'? Off to war to protect the property rights of their landlords? I don't think so.

The societal contract is broken.
