Any ideas what this is?

Sorry, not sure this is the correct board to ask in.
However.
Weve had a trench open at work for a few weeks now.
The job got held once they surveyed the drainage levels and it had to go back to the engineers and be revised.

However, this sort of white almost sappy stuff has started to show through the edge of the excavation.
Its show in the attached photos, towards the bottom.

Could anyone on here shed any light on what it might be?

That's the stuff.
I wasnt sure if it was salts or similar, but it's like a cross between bubbles and something almost sap like.
It's in Kings Lynn so it's fairly prone to flooding and I'm guessing there is quite a lot of salt in the water.

The machine op asked me the question, I wondered if it was gas related or similar in all honesty.

It's been under a floor slab for probably a year and a half so that's what made me wonder.
Theres also signs of some sort of culvert that is at one point of the trench, to be fair I stood on that to take this photo but its along the whole area of the trench that has been open for that time.

I haven't really smelt it and I wouldn't fancy tasting it.
How are Stalagtites forms exactly?
I wonder if it is similar to that.

To be honest, I would be totally unsupervised by it being some sort of fluid or contaminant.

not knowing what the site was, I can understand your reticence to taste it ... might be anything, from some sort of salt to arsenic .... get some one dull to try it
