Case C15 lost fluid, replaced pipe and fluid, but air in system.

Hi, I have an old case 15 mini-digger and a hose underneath the cab split. I lost most of the hydraulic fluid. Now, After replacement and refilling, the joystick controls do nothing. The blade, slew and breaker circuits all work OK.

Is there any way I can solve this? Lots of googling suggests that the air will work itself out, so I've been starting and running the machine every day for the last 10 days. But nothing. :(

Many thanks in advance.

How long was it run with the hose burst and was it run dry?

Hi, thanks for the reply. It ran until the hydraulics stopped working (I had to get it out of a hole so that I could change the hose).
BUT ... after I'd done the hose and refilled the fluid, it took a few runs and rests - and then it all started working again. I stopped it, topped up the fluid level as it had dropped (presumably to fill the air-gaps), then nothing again.

OK. So I've been trying bleeding some of the cylinder connections and the highest one (based on the position of the machine when it stopped working, in this case the swing arm cylinder) does not leak fluid - as all the others do, so I guess there's air in there (and possibly other places too).

I'm completely out of ideas now, so I'm wondering whether to fill the fluid tank to the brim and keep running the machine every so often whilst operating the remote levers. I've been doing that anyway, but only with the fluid level on the 'max' mark. If I try this, should I put the tank cap on and tighten it - or leave it loose?

Any other ideas?!

When you get it running, operate the blade to alter the level of machine. Try in all positions also slew it
Thank you. So would over-filling the fluid reservoir be a good idea? I have been operating the slew and the blade to full extremes over the last week or so. I've noticed that there is some power getting to the tracks too (the pump sound changes as if it's working) but it seems like the power is very limited and the tracks don't actually move, so I still can't move the machine.
I really do appreciate the advice, thank you. (y)

So long as the fluid level is "always" above the intake (plus a margin), more isn't going to help.
Sounds like the suction strainer is blocked or section hose is collapsing internally

The case c15 has 2 pumps which sounds like why you are able to operate the slew, blade & breaker circuit. Assuming you haven’t damaged the pump by running it dry you may have a problem with the lift arm safety circuit which controls all other circuits except the blade, slew & breaker circuit. Case in there wisdom put the safety relays under the seat which are vulnerable when the seat is left up during rain.

Yes it might be as simple as that. My kobata 1.5t mini, you can track with arm rest up but on case 1.5 you can't both 2003

Does your machine have a triple gear pump on it? How long was it run without oil? It could be a chance that the pimp was run dry and now damaged. It doesn't take much to annoy then
Speaking from experience?

Thanks to everyone for your help. I'll be spending the weekend on it and I'll report back. I feel better about working through your suggestions methodically as, you have helped me to narrow down the possible causes. Much appreciated. (y)

A damaged pimp, dangerous

Well, it's working! Thanks so much everyone for the advice.
In the end, I'm happy to say it was indeed the safety circuit - which has a bad connection under the seat - exactly where @Steve and @diggerjones said it can be a problem. Phew. An easy fix in the end - and with no outlay. (y)
😊
Glad you are all sorted. I think I have a parts manual somewhere for that model which shows exploded diagrams with part numbers.
