I like to aim for about 50p per hour depreciation.....
I bought the machine for £22.5k in 2014. I then added the engcon in 2018 for £13k (but that did include a lot of attachments that I kept for the new machine)What were the figures to get that deprecation? That's damn good. I guess you put a few more hours on it? I'd have happily put another thousand hours on it but I reasoned for the cost to change I'll keep it fresh, it's a frontline machine. Will be sad to see it go.
I'm treating the new one to some rubber clip on pads (every other shoe) for the steel tracks- should make it easier to use on posh jobs in the winter.
It's certainly doable, as you know I run a mixed fleet and some of it quite old. It's a lot harder to quantify repair costs than depreciation though, particularly when using your own labour! Luck comes into it too- we've all had that one secondhand machine that 'I never put a spanner on it', but we've all had pups too.I like to aim for about 50p per hour depreciation.....

I'm aware just how shocking they are offroad, but only wish to use them on tarmac or to track them down the road to a job. I love my steels!Careful with those clip on pads they are lethally slippy and stop the machine digging in on soft ground. Watched a 13t very nearly get written off last week as couldn't get any purchase to push a tree it should easily deal with so the tree went sideways taking the machine with it.
Do you mean the Wacker EZ26-2? I'd discounted that for being a zero tail machine.I'd be careful with that CAT 302.7, from the spec sheet, its not half as powerful in the dig as a lot of the others especially against the 8026. And stability has been mentioned by a lot of people now. I've yet to drive one, and they look really well put together - but at the end of the day we buy a machine to perform and for me thats more important than legroom or a fancy screen.
Despite our light mocking of Doobins Bobcat, I have always thought they drove well whenever I've used one. And you cant beat them for spec vs cost.
As for new 2.7t machines, the new JCB is obviously a contender in my eyes but yet to see one out and about. But the new Wacker Neuson 27-2 looks some bit of kit. And some lovely options on it too.
Same when I picked breaker up last week £millions in stock£20k with five buckets and the hydraulic hitch.
Of course. Try to zoom in on the showroom photo- an absolutely insane amount of stock! I was seriously impressed. View attachment 57842View attachment 57843
You want to get a JCB mate. That cost £2.60 in depreciation and I didn't have to weld it once
I did paint it a few times though....
Run that by me again? The way I see it (and the way I calculated my depreciation) is this:I bought the machine for £22.5k in 2014. I then added the engcon in 2018 for £13k (but that did include a lot of attachments that I kept for the new machine)
So based on £35.5k all in, I sold it with 3500hrs on in 2022 for £25k. And kept my buckets and sorting grab. I don't think I will ever own a machine again that earned me as much money as that 8026 did over the years and got me such a good return. It helped with the inflation of used prices post 2020 of course. The new machine cost £28k + £13k for the tiltrotator (this time with only one bucket!) so I'm in for a bit more this time around and sadly I cant see it holding its price as well as the old one did in another 7 years time or whenever I decide to part with it.
He wants a TB125 then. I've just lifted a stricken roller (500kg) onto a trailer with the TB228- had to be more or less far reach to get it on. It did it but straining but got it back to yard and lifted it off with the TB125 with grader and thumb on- was shocked how easily it came off the trailer in comparison- best 3 tonner I've ever used tbh- perfect combination of all factors and just about towable..He likes the kubotas , he’d have a Takeuchi but the weight would need to be right .

that's how I work it out tooRun that by me again? The way I see it (and the way I calculated my depreciation) is this:
Your old digger cost £35,500 with a tilty and attachments.
Your new one cost £41,000 with the tilty.
You sold the old digger and tilty for £25,000
The cost difference is £41,000 - £25,000 = £16000. Divide that by 3500 hours and you get £4.57. It's good, but that's about where I'd expect the Bobcat to end up if I'd run it for another 1500 hours.
If you just subtracted the old diggers sale price from it's new price then my bobcat 'only cost £3.57 per hour depreciation'- but that's not true as a new one cost us both more.
Am I missing something?
I’m not even going to ask you
I never even asked !The answer is a no! Will get rid of it when it's a pile of rust on the floor I've decided.
My interest firmly stopped at the price, no idea what mine would be worth but would imagine a fairly decent loss, no matter how much it annoys me at times, reality would mean hanging onto it for the foreseeable.I'd be careful with that CAT 302.7, from the spec sheet, its not half as powerful in the dig as a lot of the others especially against the 8026. Don't even f****ng bother, he's genuinely the worst person to ever attempt to buy a digger offI’m not even going to ask you
You have to act quick if you want to buy a digger of me- no point waiting till the weekend to collect it because I will have changed my mind by then- as you know.Don't even f****ng bother, he's genuinely the worst person to ever attempt to buy a digger off![]()
if you buy them right there is no depreciationI like to aim for about 50p per hour depreciation.....
agreed ,i have an older one ,it would be the last thing i soldThe answer is a no! Will get rid of it when it's a pile of rust on the floor I've decided.
