3.5t Trailer brakes

So my bjt tipper decided to throw a shoe on thursday and flat spotted a tyre.

Are the pattern part shoes ok or better off spending triple for genuine?

Had best part of 10 tyres since owned this trailer and not one has been worn out

Going to replace the bearings and the damper, the drums seem ok and have plenty of meat on the. Raking face, although the thrown shoes have marked/scored the drum inner face, not the braking face but the vertical side.
New drums seem to be £300 ish plus vat ......

I've never used anything but pattern parts on my Ifor. If it's 'Brian James' genuine then it's probably still a pattern part for whatever manufacturer's axles they use!

Drum sounds like it should be fine, post a pic if you're worried.

Just standard al KO brakes 230 x 60 although would have to check which pcd

Don’t think I’ve ever worn out a set of trailer tyres , always blow before they are at tread depth!

It would be nice if a tyre manufacturer produced a tyre for 3.5 ton trailers that was fit for purpose, but i guess there's not much incentive

I've had security, then set of trailer max, then a set of nankang, which had two replaced with trailer maaxx as they delaminated and now need another tyre

presumably the retainer pin/clip let go??

Seems to have pulled both retaining clips and then took all the material off one shoe, the rest have a good 5mm of shoe left.

They’re the best I’ve found so far. @Monkeybusiness rates them too, and we’re both pretty hard on our Ifor gh1054s.

They’ve done well for me - have had one go a funny shape but they are generally very hard wearing. I’ve actually replaced a few bald ones which makes me happy as I’ve definitely had my moneys worth!

keeping the pressure correct makes a lot of difference, as soon as they get a bit low they overheat at higher speeds with weight on, just a pain having to keep checking them, low speed tight turns with weight on is when they lose pressure I suppose.
Would still be nice if there was something more heavy duty available.

You can go to the ifor gp series and fit considerably larger wheels

Just had a look at that, 16’’ 10 ply would be good, trouble is you sacrifice about 120 kg of payload by the look of it. Back to towing Reg’s again

Yes I think they are designed for use behind 7.5t lorries that need something a bit more substantial. It's shame the don't offer the same size tyre on the gh. Would not require much engineering.
