Who do people use for this kind of thing. Need a load of pedestrian barriers, cones signs etc, any recommendations other than nicking them from the side of the road

I’ve literally found all my cones in bushes on the side of the road, or left over from contractors I’ve had working for us! *not stolen!

Or there are always loads for sale really cheap on "utilities lads and gangs" Facebook page.
Often come up unused or single use for a tenner a barrier.

And for anyone procuring them from the roadside you can buy the reflective band round the middle very cheaply to make them look smart.
If you end up buying them buy plastic. Metal signs are carp.

Yeah just been on the Facebook marketplace. Quite a lot of barriers for sale for a tenner ish but if I have to spend half a day going to collect it starts to stack up buying new ones. I only need 6! But need a good stack of cones for when working in carparks, roadside work etc. I bought a stack a few years ago and I reckon in every job I use them for at least one gets run over- got 4 left now

Quite like the look of the cone signs? Easy to keep tucked away somwhere and not bulky or heavy. Only problem I can see is spinning around in the wind...

You should see how many we go through. Any given set of temp traffic lights has at least 2 cones run over a day. Probably 4 completely destroyed a week.
And recently someone's been collecting our barriers for us from the side of the road.
Sand bags are another one. We go through hundreds. To the point that the tm firm we use for bigger jobs have gone to Harris fence type feet with the sign clipped on.

They don't spin round but do blow over if used on 750mm cones. You have to chuck a couple of sand bags on the base. Better if you can pinch the big 1 meter motorway cones.

I used to flatten cones for fun when on hire to council. They used to put a cone right upaginst front bucket so you couldn't see it, so you'd lift bucket, drive forward and a squished cone would appear.
I told them several times just put the cone in the bucket on the edge and I'll carry it forward as we move along but no....so I gave up getting out to move them and just ran them over.

You lot are a tight bunch. Happily spend £60k on a new digger but not £6 on a cone. I do think it looks a bit more professional to have tidy cones and signs rather than mix and match cones and signs that have spent the better part of their life lying in a verge. The trouble with having the nice stuff is there's always some bugger prepared to nick it!

Our cones aren't even by us. It's people who just can't drive. Same with the barriers. They are some expensive cars as well hitting them. And we use 1m cones. You would have thought a 1m tall orange cone designed with the sole purpose of being highly visible would be pretty easy to avoid.
Had a bloke pull into a lane closure on the a31 one day as he had ran over a lamp that had been knocked of a cone. And ask me what I'm going to do about it. I pointed out I wasn't the one who drove over a very large highly visible object designed to be avoided.

I bought 60 new chapter 8 for a job few years ago, spray paint stencilled them all on both sides but still only got about 40 odd left now they go walkies. Especially on the big factory we work on, other contractors borrow them or workers use them for painting etc then get stuffed behind pallets etc i once had a route rd on a Saturday and found 14 around the factory.
Signs have been acquired other the years not stolen but tidied up out of hedges or rivers or picked up from stuff left for months not collected etc

We’ve had a wave of fibre gangs through here recently, trouble is they all have different brands and colours of barriers Any leftovers have been abandoned with missing feet so can’t even make a good set up!

Cut the top off of old 5 gallon oil drum fill it with concrete and spray it red and white,if you want to be really compliant stick a lamp pin in it and drape an old bit of BT drawcord between them,never seem to get nicked.
