Seller wont tell me pin centres, but diameter and width look compatible. Was £800 which was silly money. £600 is heading right direction but what's it worth really? Looks fairly soft given the way the rake has bent.

So a question for you steel gurus out there. Hardox obviously has great wear resistance does that also constitute to actual strength in bending it as well say over mild steel.

I remember taking a bucket to a lad who does some work for me, which required drilling some hardox 500. I said to him is it hard to drill, he was like no not really, it's just the wear characteristics of it over the actual drilling it, bending it, shaping it. Was long while ago and wasn't fully paying attention, hence the question on here now.

All I really know is it’s tough , there are others better qualified here to elaborate 👍

I had a chat with a hardox salesman at Hillhead a few years ago and he gave me a little sample booklet with a thin strip of hardox and a piece of mild steel the same size (approx 1mm thick, possibly less). The mild steel could be bent into any shape easily, the hardox was much harder to bend and always sprang back.

This particular bloke I know is well vexed, over the years he's done loads for me, it was just more of he's not phased by things like that...think of him as a yorkshire druid. He did have full on workshop but family stuff and getting on now means he works out of his barn and only if its a job he cba to do (more if he likes you rather than it been a hard to do job)

Has anyone had any dealings with merthyr motor auctions.
They have quite a few ex council pickups on eBay listed at sensible money buy it now but not sure if theres a con going on.

I paid 9.2k Inc vat for a 66 reg isuzu 9mths ago from a dealer. So from a price point of view I'd say your been lured in due to price.
Covid definitely inflated prices but things are back to something sensible now.

oh yes ... only time I ever saw my old man pull his warrant card in civvies ..... "shall we continue this conversation in the back office"
utter bandits .... he had a motor knocked down to him in the ring ... went to pay at the front office and was told if he wanted it it would be another 500 quid ... at which point the warrant card came out .. we left with it for what he bid and won it for.
They've always had loads of ex council vehicles as far as I can remember
they run stuff through week on week for the entry fees .... if they get a bite, they give the authority the reserve and pocket the rest ... utter bandits ... have stood there of an evening with mates - we're all watching 'the auctioneer' plucking bids from nowhere - we're the only ones there with hands in pockets .... all the locals just stopped going there ...... wouldn't buy a tube of smarties from 'em

I paid 8.3k + vat for a 103K silver utility with extended cab in 2021 (poverty spec) local private sale. Needed a service which added a bit post sale. Huge range in used prices because of huge range or add on toys it seems. Was 23.5k (IIRC) for brand new then.
