I haven't got time to be pimping and cleaning/polishing machines, there's too much work that pays to be done!

Love the way they do up their machines out there!
Correct me if I'm wrong Ollie, didn't this crowd buy Craig Bells old Volvo duck... I remember him telling me how much they spent on it after buying it ( cant remember the figure) but it was a crazy price.View attachment 8703
That’s right, and that’s it, it’s a big thing over there, as you know, and it is very much like how the truck boys are over here with the shows etc, and you’ve got to remember, some of these lads, are the finest operators around, so, as a boss your going to want to keep them happy in what they do to keep them on board?

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
Well if you was going to hire a machine and one turned up like this one and another that wa exactly the same spec but was just another machine which would you like working on your site
It’s all about image and getting seen out there
I'd be far more concerned about the time he'd spend cleaning and polishing it and the number of times he'd have to swap shoes, everytime he had to get in/out TBH Mog it's a machine not a fashion statement .... look after your tool by all means, but I'd be worried he'd be frightened to get it dirty

Well it depends how you look at it Gra, if it didn’t pay to do it,it wouldn’t be done, a lot easy to by something that’s already done and dusted than trying from scratch to do all the work to them. The vast majority of the machines out there seem to be like that, and some stunning examples as well, tracks as well, so there’s got to be something in it....As for there trucks, that agin is on another level all together😱😎...and as Mog said, image is a massive thing know on sites, you got something a bit different, your going to get noticed......might have to “pimp” that trailer you bought off me😂😂
it'll get a coat of summat slapped on with the fabricator's friend at some point, I dare say Oll :LOL:

Gra, their clients will be exactly the same as ares, and want value for money from whom ever they hire in, the only reason these machines can get “pimped” is because there out working and earning.
It’s only the same as the wagon boys over here getting there units show ready, how many times have you driven into a truck stop and you see some of the lads running round them with a cloth. As Mog said, if two machines turned up the same, which one would you want on your site? it’ll be something that they do in their own time/break time.
As for been a “fashion statement”, I’d say it’s more of a “business card”, you’ll remember the name and machine over a “normal” one.

You’ve also got to remember that there’s actually busisnes’s that run off the back of doing all this sort of work to machines. Myself and Eddie met a bloke out in Sweden 2 years ago who’s business for the last 15 years was actually doing this sort of work for Case and Doosan, with them warrantying all the work that got done to there machines. And the day after the show, the new JCB “X” series machine that was at the show, was going off to get “scanned” so that all the 3rd party company’s that do this sort of work, make light bars etc, can access where all bolt holes etc would be on the machine.

Not de-crying the quality of what gets done to them Ollie .... and they are lovely to look at  .... bloody impressive TBH (y) ... but can you really see that sort of pimping/customisation job getting you extra work on a UK site ??? I can't personally? Hire-ers would be too concerned that the op'd be constantly too worried about keeping the machine shiny IMHDO ..... If it was me hiring I'd take the clean std machine over that any day and not worry that the op was some sort of Prima-donna, who was more concerned about Autoglym, Decosol and 1001 carpet shampoo than getting on with the tasks in hand.
and I'm not trying to be awkward .... they are stunningly prepped ... but if that's their 'fad' over there, fine and can understand the guys taking a pride in it .... but they are machines built to work in some pretty shitty environments and could not see any of them wading into 700mm of slurry

I know your not Gra🙂, It’s a bit different over there, where 90% of the machines over there are owner drivers with 10% been hire company’s and over here it’s the opposite way round.

Anything more than 3 buckets and a hitch over here and you might as well bang your head against a wall, with the 99% of reps/dealers just not F’in interested. They all can give it the talk that they give good back up and they want to supply you stuff, but when it comes down to it, you just keep chasing and chasing, so I can’t really see an influx of pimped up machines getting turned out just yet😏

Having the exactly the same problem myself at the moment with a company, which, unfortunately has lead to a premature ending of a 5 year hire with my client!!! And the best part of it is that they’ve sent me an invoice for it!!. 15 July at 10:58 I was told they would get back to me and then again on the 12 August at 15:11 was told the same thing. Again, another crowd, that give the billy big bollocks of “we offer this, we can can do that, we’ll look after you” when all in in all, they are just the same as all the rest.....all talk!!!!
Starting to sound a bit old now but speaking to some of the old brigade from up and down the country, it never used to be like this, so what has changed?? with just a genuine honest service??, why do reps and dealers feel the need to lie to you and tell you what you want to hear??. It just stinks.

Don't complain - suggest what's better
Ollie, I feel for you.
Unfortunately there are so many shits out there. When they want something they are all full of promises that if you put in extra now to help them out they will see you right, then as soon as they have what they want they will shaft you.
There no longer seems any value placed on loyalty or commitment. People seem to be changing jobs continually so only care about the very short term and the firms taking them on don't seem to care they won't be there for the long term and have no commitment to the business.
I guess it is an age thing. I'm in business to make money, but I'm not there to screw everyone over and run off to the next thing just before it hits the fan. Unfortunately there are a lot of people now who would call me stupid to try an act with some integrity.

There’s nothing stupid in acting with integrity, and for the record it was the dealer who through the spanner in the works by not been bothered, my client has been absolutely fantastic, and I got a really good reference from my works manager. (Well I thought it was good😬). Talk of going back to them when the need arises, which will be good. I’m not out to conquer the world by any stretch of the imagination, just offer a good honest service that’s all, and don’t let them, or anyone else down, however, if you start relying on others who just end giving you false promises, you just end up getting screwed over.

regrettably it seems to be the norm everywhere Ollie ..... no matter what it is ... no commitment to the customer any more.
has been the same for a long time ... I used to get the same problems with suppliers... you quote a delivery date to your client based on suppliers promises and be let down time after time ... 's why I always kept about 50t of steel stock in my yard, to try to cover most eventualities and not be reliant on non performing suppliers. Couldn't cover all requirements, especially the larger structural jobs, but at least kept the smaller work flow moving ..... as you say suppliers will promise you the world to get the orders then forget you exist, when it comes to delivering :mad::mad:

I had wondered what had happened with your job ... thought you'd be there for ever  ..... sad to hear that some tw*t has cost you a contract like that .... VERY frustrating for you

You can simply fix it by pasting the fiberglass on it. Just try it by yourself. If you did not find suitable then you can call the mechanic to repair it.
