MF450S

Hi dose any one know what the foot peddles on the MF450s do?

Ive had my digger for 6 years and assumed they were foot rests, but when I lifted the plates to try and clean out the years of mud I found the wee cylinders attached to them with there fluid pots under the seat e.c.t.

Any help greatfully apprecated. Regards Billy

Would of initially been brakes.

Thanks very much, yes they do have a locking ratchet on them.

Do you know why they would have had brakes on them, would the spool valves not do the same thing?

(Was hoping you were going to say it speed up the tracking, it manages about 0.5 mph flat out)

Don’t think so, just a big 2” pin that drops down through the cab into a slot in the slew to lock it strait ahead.

a lot of older 360s had a manual hydraulic slew brake and no automatic one, so to stop it slewing you operated a foot brake .. pretty sure they had an automatic brake on top of that HUGE slew drive .. the pin is a mechanical lock usually for transport or long distance tracking

What do you use it for ?
Does it free slew at the moment if you let go off the slew lever ?
You don’t really need the slew brake for most jobs as you can get by just slewing the other way to slow it down but I suppose it would be nice to get it working if your keeping the old girl

Yes to clarify they are independent track brakes (left right).

Pawel mechanism is a handbrake.

Just spotted this machine is on tracks. I was on a 450 duck.

Same as a case 580 from memory, bucket and slew are swapped, I've a feeling the boom and dipper might be opposite too, but I could be confusing myself.

Fyi just checked with a man who I drove one with. Left is Slew brake, right brakes both tracks. As @Bri963 and @Mick-the-fitter said

Ok so new Taki TB20E controlled electrically at the levers, has a switch to change to (R) Boom and Slew (L) Dipper and Bucket, so using it normally in the summer, park next to the tea hut to charge over night, come in next morning, into dash to put the clock back an hour! Ok the lever change accidentally on the same screen, which incidentally has an on off for the beacon in there too, of we go Boom up bucket open! Just wiped out the tea hut!! Oh by the way it’s horrible to operate! Like a light switch not a dimmer switch. Any load sending is not fed back through the levers

Just spotted this machine is on tracks. I was on a 450 duck.

I had to Google that, I had never seen a 450 duck. I bet that was good in its day.
