Father had 20T of scalpings delivered last week. £19pt+vat. I need a bit, so spoke to local quarry today, and these are the prices (which might interest people) based on 16ton loads + vat
803 (the better stuff) £24
803 (the white gritty stuff) £23
75mm clean £26
75mm to dust £17
40mm to dust (scalpings) which might be a bit muddy £17
40mm clean £26

I couldn't believe that road planing are same money as 803.

Yes there's very little price difference round here for the tarmac planings vs stone.

If you have yard space follow the various planing pages on Facebook. They occasionally advertise on there very cheap or free road planings. Sometimes with delivery sometimes you have to put your own lorries in. Always last minute.

Round here ...easy access to motorway and 24/7 access will get you top of the list...we paid £7t for a few loads right next to M6 pre COVID but like you say it's hit and miss.
You can arrive in morning and find 20 loads dropped after midnight on closures

Not quite, greed by those that can take lorry loads at a time.

If you buy direct off the belt it's £50 per 8w tipper. They then sell at £20 to £25pt. Do the maths. Nice earner if you've the yard space

Not round here, no one cares, they can't get enough of them.

One firm round here wanted me to do a test on the tarmac I was fetching in to see if it had coal dust in it, just took it to somewhere else...mind they are picky as f. They only want you to fetch in the finest of top soil to tip off.

You are supposed to do an on site test for them to check for coal tar and if present dispose of in a sealed contaminated waste landfill. As far as it's really got is adding a tick box at the bottom of the risk assessment for tar. I think it would bankrupt every local authority if they followed through with it. Could you imagine adding 150 a tonne disposal fee to resurfacing jobs.

Yeah at great expense all council subbies got given a can per gang. We sprayed it on a few bits to give it a test then it rolled around the vans for a year or two before being skipped when the vans had a clear out. 60 quid a can and easily 100 cans doled out.
