Our Sealey bench shears are falling apart after about 2 years. What’s a decent make to look out for? Or should I try and find an old set that were made properly? We use for lopping up and separating scrap copper and gets daily abuse.

I would love to visit harbour freight. I would happily visit America just to be a tourist of there shops.

a lot of the Harbour Fright stuff seems to be their Sealey/MachineMart equivalent though ...... but damn they have some inventory

thats what I'd love to see. Nowhere in this country has that range under one roof and open on a Sunday

At the rate we're going apart from B&Q there's basically hardly anywhere with more than a token display here now...even big red which is one of biggest Milwaukee dealers display looks like a corner shop compared to yank shops....online has well and truly killed it. Soon be only a handful of big guys left selling tools online and then they control the pricing completely 🫣

mid 80s, was in Paris on the return leg of a couple of weeks in La Sud de France on the Kawi and found La Samaritaine dept. store --- block after block of shop buildings .. the basement was linked under the side streets separating the various blocks and was their hardware/tools/anything you could think of dept. -- from screws to lathes the size of a Colchester Student ... could've spent hours in there - GF had other ideas

It's really annoying that you can't look at anything. Especially with screws and fixings that you aren't entirely sure what you want. And even worse now Screwfix have done away with there catalogue. And there staff rarely know what the thingy is that you want.

For anyone in the area the ITS tool shop in Harlow has a very good power tool display, can handle a massive selection before buying
You can't beat seeing/handling stuff before you buy. Year's ago I went down to FR Jones to buy a stihl 661, actually ended up with a 461, not much different (weight wise ) on paper, 30 seconds handling showed me I was wrong, ended up with exactly what I needed

We used to visit rellies in Glasgow and it was always a treat to go to the Barrowlands and have a look through Bills Tool Store. They had a range of weird and wonderful tools you would never see anywhere else. Like 6' stilsons or files from 6mm wide by 80mm long to 80mm wide X 600 long. Some were a bit gimmicky but it's surprising how you could find stuff you needed. Not the same shop now sadly

They’re getting fed up with stuff getting nicked. We had one in Peterborough like Bills, fantastic range you could browse through but they’re trade and on-line now. There’s a good one up the road from our yard, Sterling nut and bolt. They’ll let the likes of me browse through the fittings but by and large you need to know what you want. Until lockdown when they re-arranged the shop layout they were losing average £12,000 a year in just small tools. Now virtually everything is in security cabinets.

Yes ‘Horrible Fright’ in USA and Princes Auto in Canada.

I’ve done the sight seeing excursions in both. I’m so jealous of them. Real one stop shops for anything from a bolt to a hydraulic hose plus all the tools and workshop machines you can think of.

Years ago me and my mate wanted a 36mm spanner for one job, every tool shop we went in either didn't sell them or were out of stock. Didn't want to order one online and not have it turn up in time, so we just used a big adjustable.
A week later we were on a group holiday in Rhodes, out on hired quad bikes we saw a tool shop by the side of the road, naturally we went in for a browse
First thing we saw was, of course, a nice shiney 36mm spanner

Seen CCTV footage from local shop few years back before tool tethers of a Mr and Mrs "Asian" ...he wanders about she casually slips power tools down her big robe/dress thingy...and walk out with with 1k of tools.
