Fencing weekend. Father has a lorry load of concrete sleepers which we are using for gate posts and strainers and anything important. Wood rots off at ground level in 10ish years which means that tomorrow I’m replacing a 2012 gate post that’s snapped off already. I doubt I’ll outlive the concrete one. Pigs to handle though, and I definitely want a bigger digger than the E10, but it wont pay :-(

They rot out as well. Just at ground level. The concrete sleepers have 6-12 lengths of rebar in, not seen one break yet

Interesting topic, came to a 8in gatepost last week. Snapped like a carrot rotted totally can't be more than 10-12 years old galv going back in or oak if Ive got a bit of 8x8 from the mill handy

I think you'd have to be on pretty good ground for those to be a success. Fairly sure on rocky ground they'd just smash up at the point.

Cleared out the silt trap at my yard.. surprising how much gets in there after 4 years! Full to the top!

The silt trap?

8ft concrete water trough buried with a custom frame & grid ontop.
All the yard water just flows into it with a high level outlet, works a treat. Basically it’s just a huge gully!

Some proper work for the little wacker this afternoon, bit of muckshifting,levelling the soil from a digout we did earlier in the year, fair heap tbf , the blade had gone rusty over the last few weeks but put a bit of a shine on it this afternoon, its to finish tomorrow but broke its back at least.

Bloody brilliant in fact yesterday had job where a load of laurel bushes needed taking out, they were around a septic tank and pipework, Gardener had cut them all down and left me something to grab , teased them all out with gripper and gave them a shake, no digging or pipe damage, perfect.

Playing in the river trying to get coffer dam water tight, 3” hilta diaphragm pump with me bailing with 16 ton 1m3 bucket wasn’t shifting it so now making calls about hiring 6-10” pump if I can or using big rocks instead of Reno mattresses in bottom.

Looks to be some amount of water coming your way on that one @Giles ! If you struggle with a pump couldn’t you get a tractor & vaccy tanker in the for day while you get out of the water level abit?
