Rekon you'd have to have good liability insurance and contracts, looked into ug survey franchise about 10 years ago easy money after initial setup

just dig a trench - if they hit anything then its extra on the bill

Add a sonde as well for tracing drainage.
Or even a camera setup as well. Would do really well for those that do a lot of drainage

Something I’ve come across recently, energy performance certificates. Money for someone “inspecting” a house, and ticking some boxes on an iPad to come up with a level to sell or rent out a house.

On construction EPC/SAP calculations … what an utter waste of everything!! £250 for a office bod to input whatever spec you tell them for it to spit out a pointless calculation and print off a pointless EPC that no one gives a damn about!!
Same with air testing, why folk get hardons over minimal air leakage is beyond me!!! Freaks!

If you’re going down that route then bat surveys! Or become a solicitor.Exactly @DaveDCB. I’m not sure what the cost to get the qualification is, but doesn’t appear to have any massive overheads so could be a potential side income without any hard work
But I think @Storrsy wants an honest living with his head held high, so was after another machine

£400 for a half day? Need to put my prices up then.
I doubt the equipment is only 1k, a Robotic Total Station I doubt now you'd get much change out of 20k new now. The RTK subscription use to be about 2K for unlimited last time I had need to consider. Software would be another 1.5k.
GPS is great, depending on what your doing and where your doing it. The latest claims to be good with canopy and being on a slight angle to get the shot, however older equipment relies on different satellite constellations or cannot access specific ones to obtain a solution. Wanted to set out for bulk excavation, maybe even some drainage or volumes, all day long. RTK for HD Bolts, Kerbs. Footings not the right tool for the job. can be +/- 25-50mm horizontally and up to +/- 30mm in elevation

It's around 400, less for regular customers and more for one off jobs. They don't do surveying really just setting out pins for small sites. No as builts either.
That's plus consumables as the charge for marker spray steel pins and mushrooms at a very over inflated price. As I said 8 ish grand for a second hand setup but they are using very vintage geodomiter machines with manual coordinate input which can be had for 1500 quid but they look horrible to use.
They did have a spectra setup on offer for total station, gps rover and a multi use controller for under 20 grand which seemed good value

money for old rope .... last one we had done got done by a retired copper, who'd cottoned on to it being a POP earner for not a lot of input or effort ... was quite candid about it once he realised who I was (worked with my old man years before)
as for the recommendations they come up with in their reports WAFJ
..... you'd wanna live a bloody long time to recoup any of the major 'investments'

All done on software... assessor can't change the words.. must input the Data. My wife works for a company that does EPCs and Air tests and Saps and Air Tests. The owner of the company always seems to have money to spend. Sound testing is big money as well.money for old rope .... last one we had done got done by a retired copper, who'd cottoned on to it being a POP earner for not a lot of input or effort ... was quite candid about it once he realised who I was (worked with my old man years before)

I've got a line that I can link to the genny which works well. A Sonde goes on the end of a drain rod I think? Cameras would be useful.

sort of agree dave ,but the sap feller i use is a good un ,because we do renos its nice to know what thickness where to bring you a a decent epc ,people are starting to look harder at efficiency levels when buying ,last house was a epc of a

Aren't banks starting to be picky on epcs?
I was told my bank manager that NatWest want to put minimum levels in...if you don't hit C or something then they won't offer a rate..or might be just commercial?

Last one I did was EPC C… 100mm kingspan everywhere, triple glazing, 200mm brickwork with cavity! Boiler and aircon are A rated..Wtf more do they want, a bloody wind turbine was an option!!
