Van battery

Afternoon, can someone please tell me what battery size I should have In a 2012 Merc sprinter van 310 I converted to a camper a couple of years ago & the vans starter battery charges 2 leasure batteries via a split charge relay. I'm sure sure if I need a bigger starter batter? Regards ian

No need to change the start battery.
If you get into trouble, you can jump yourself from the house batteries.

I think you're confusing the battery with the alternator. The alternator is belt driven from the engine and generates a current which charges the batteries. It should charge the start battery first and then the leisure batteries via a split charge relay (if the install is wired up correctly).

What I think you mean to ask is s'hould you fit a larger output alternator?' If you are a heavy user of the leisure batteries and don't always drive for sufficient distance to top them up properly, then it's not a bad shout.
