I have been asked if I would like to change jobs?
to a company where I would become the 8 Man, 3 of whom are plant operator apprentices and I will be given partial responsibility for teaching them and project responsibility for the job I am on.
the wage they offer is £29 an hour.
fairly normal salary for an experienced plant operator in Norway
and a brand new Kubota KX060-5 with tilty of course
Does anyone have any experience with this type of plant?
Is it something worth spending the days in or not?
company has a Kubota kx161-3
a Daevo 13 ton
and the new Kubota KX060-5 that I will be getting
two Fendt 916 Vario
a Fendt 726 Vario
with dumper trailers
in norway it is legal to transport masses and equipment with a tractor
they work primarily private House owners typical tasks drainage around the house replacing the sewer and water system building up gardens and yards and garage excavations

Ive driven from 20t to 800kg and like the 5/9t category the best - fast and responsive but not bouncing around like you can do on the really small stuff, if your sat on that size machine it usually means your on smaller often more interesting work that keep you moving from job to job to keep it interesting but not moving daily necessarily which can be a pita
The new kubota is supposed to be a good smooth machine and equipped with a tilty should be a nice place to work.
Dont know what you do at the moment but the job you are considering sounds much the same as what we do and if your luckily enough to have some people around you with the right attitude it sounds pretty decent.

The machine doesn’t matter Frank . If you own that Liebherr working for the man will never be as rewarding mentally as working for yourself .

Don't complain - suggest what's better
A new job with different work can keep your interest. Training guys can be satisfying if they have the right attitude, but pretty frustrating if they don't and you don't have the authority to move them on.
I personally like the 8t size of machine. Big enough cab to get comfortable in, but small enough machine to get in to interesting jobs. The only down side is the smaller the machine the more the operator seems required to get out and labour and I'm getting too old for much hard graft. Working knee deep in s**t fighting pipes together then getting back in the machine is not my idea of a fun day.

I have worked on many Kubotas in my time I would choose them over anything else, great machines, with a long history of development, operator comfort being one of them.👍
Mick I bow to your superior experience/judgement on all things mechanical :) but after having a few different kubota models over the last few years got to disagree with the comfort part.

Update me, I’ve been away from Kubota since 19, the U48s, U57s KX080-4 all seemed a great piece of kit, not that I was sat in them all day!

Or maybe for the more rounded gent, with lots of padding!

The 2017 ET65 I have now which is in a different league to the same era Kubotas, space/seat/noise levels etc feels like an Audi versus a Ford in the early 90's.

Always felt I sat on a kubota, not in it, if that makes sense. Never somewhere I would want to be spending a full day if I had a choice, uncomfortable and noisy

Looks like B25/27 in the picture, worked on lots of those too, not a bad machine either! Be good to see what different points of view there are on types of machines, from repairs, operating, parts availability and price of course!

Well I've been sitting and digging connection holes for drainage of fields for 4 years on average 50 to 60 per day and used the evening to fill them again
one has got the feeling of working on an assembly line 😑
Dig a hole move to next,
dig a hole move to next,
dig a hole move to next,
dig a hole move to next,
dig a hole move to next,
dig a hole move to next,
dig a hole move to next,
dig a hole move to next,

It becomes kinda boring after a while. 🙄
with the new Company no job, no day will be the same 😎
Yes, I go from a 20 tonne Liebherr down to a 5.5 tonne Kubota🤔
Will i miss the strength, will i miss the range, most likely 🤔
but I won't miss working on that assembly line anymore 😋
for the last four years I have only been home at weekends in the new job I will come home every day
While I'm writing Here it seems that the pluses are more than the minuses
home every day
more interesting Jobs
better paid
no need to drive 2-4 hours to get to and from work
it would probably rarely take more than 20 minutes to and from work

Sounds like youve answered your own question , I used to like land drainage but it was mixed with golf course work at my old firm which necessitated traveling on boards and lots of sweeping up so contrast that with been able to work in the fields and not worry about track marks and mess was a nice change, suprised they dont rotate the tasks around between connection holes/gravel cart etc to stop people getting too bored.
Look forward to following how you get on in your new job if you take the leap :)
