That’s some tidy work . How much of that stone did you place with the digger and how much labouring was involved ? Did you use the grab? and If so you should be keeping it !
I’ve done a bit of it in my time but nothing as nice as that .

i was tempted to try a set of firemans jaws of life.

2 jobs I've been doing over summer, the first with the Case is 6ft high and stonefaced on both sides (customers don't want to fence to keep sheep in!) so was a fair old job in the end. The second I've got to go back next year and rebuild the other side.

Sharp axe and bit of grunt, 2 ton come along off nearby tree and micro we got 6 big tree stumps out in 2 days still trying to burn them got big air mover plugged in pointing at fire like an incinerator. mrs took this of me other night haha. Old whingy neighbour from 4 doors up loves coming Rd for a Moan was rude to mrs last time so he got angry me at 6’ 24 stone and my foreman at 6’5” 19 stone glaring at him he soon f’off

I’ve done a bit of it in my time but nothing as nice as that .

I try to lift as little as poss really. Perhaps 90% placed by machine and usually do the fill ins by hand, etc.The job with the case there wasn't much there that was manhandable anyway. The labour side of it is more compacting the soil behind it and alot of getting in and out the machine to check the batter etc. There's a few old boys round here still chaining every rock on, seems painfully slow way of doing it but boy they have a good eye for what fits!

that is some fire Giles ..... can understand his point of view to a degree TBH .... in this weather you hardly want to have to keep yer windows shut to keep the wood smoke and bonfire smell out of the house. I never burn with the wind in the wrong direction (N, NE) anything else, it blows away from us and the neighbours and if I know it's likely to be particularly bad (or summat I do not want to be smelling - packaging and the like). I like a good Southerly or there abouts to take it well away.
more difficult for you though, surrounded by neighbours ... you're gonna pee someone off, whatever you do (and some folk live to groan/moan/create an argument, as we know only too well here, so try to avoid creating any excuse).

Had Sad Act's missus, from next door, demanding we turn our floods off the other night .... shining on our patio and lawn, Pam watering her plants -- pitch black here at 10pm ... peripheral overcast falls on a field, 100 yds from their nearest house window........... they stayed on 'til we finished -- tossers .. they clutch at any excuse to have a pop and only ever open their mouths to complain/have a go -- I could be a right **** if I chose to be .. not gonna stoop to their level though

same night as the light incident, 3-ish the one flod on a sensor on the drive was on/off/on/off .. thought it'd gone wrong, so got up to isolate it and their cat is chasing (presumably) a mouse around on our drive, setting the sensor off I isolated it anyway

Anyhow tonight i looked at a little private job that i cant get the 6t and tilty in
I think the next project is get rid of the 1.7t and 3t and get at little 2t wacker and put a tilty on ...it really is a no going back job

Im not suprised at all, its saving lots of time and making life easy (just as well as as im walking wounded with a broken rib 2 days ago)
An interesting side effect I hadnt considered is the banksman role (unless watching for something) is a bit redundant, suppose it will take a month or so for things to settle down into a rhythm again and and people knowing where to be and what to be doing when,it puts pressure on the banksman/woman (labourer) to be productive in other ways, leaning on the shovel is over

Problem I find is getting there attention back as you end up doing most of it by machine they tend to wander
