Attacking some stumps in my garden today mighty dx10 did ok with some assistance.

Neighbour has been asking me to do some work for him on field back of ours, but been too busy. He’s hired an e10 got delivered this morning text me to be on call incase he messed up, he’s a doctor at baby hospital but grew up on a Scottish farm. 10.30 rang me to come get it unstuck, bogged it in a wet bit. Got it out in a few mins got him back ditching haha 😂

Got one here off the 1.5 ton but will fit with quick hitch off wasn’t as effective. the micro doesn’t have the power to rip through with it so small bucket teeth work best on the roots as well as the 1.5 ton come along to give them a real pull. And a sharp axe and some sweat.

On a big 450mm stump old conifer now should be fun for todays job in the heat

Coming through back of garage so can’t get anything bigger in yet till garage is down but need to build garden room first to hold garage contents.

Got one here off the 1.5 ton but will fit with quick hitch off wasn’t as effective. the micro doesn’t have the power to rip through with it so small bucket teeth work best on the roots as well as the 1.5 ton come along to give them a real pull. And a sharp axe and some sweat.

On a big 450mm stump old conifer now should be fun for todays job in the heat

Coming through back of garage so can’t get anything bigger in yet till garage is down but need to build garden room first to hold garage contents.
Something wrong with the ripper geometry then. My e10 wouldn’t struggle with those roots, I’d definitely not need the winch.

bet there was plenty of that yesterday .... 28C here yesterday ....... likely to be more today ..... pretty warm here already Giles ........ better sharpen up that axe ;):giggle:

I noticed the fuel issue Using the Case 85 hard and we put about 300l in that over a few days. 7.3 litres an hour according to the computer . The fuel in a week was about 50% of the hire cost

I was on a Hitachi usb85 about a month ago and I put 40-55 litres in it a day. Digging very hard dry clay then leveling out some crush.
I know people dislike Hitachi's as there cab is horrible but I really didn't think the fuel consumption was bad for what I was doing.

That sounds similar to my case- can just about eek out a jerry can over a day if just on light grab work.
Today I fuelled up the TB228 after 3.5days work. Machine running the whole time, plenty of tracking and grab work but not any heavy digging. 27L it used. That's 7.7L a day! Staggeringly efficient.

Sounds about right, i don't think my TB280 would use any more than that working hard all day.

It is but a modern 8t machine is often 9.5t or atleast the Hitachi is. So it's moving over 3x as much machine around before you start working. Then I think we expect to much from them in comparison.
I dug out a set of footings a 1/4 of the size 2 years ago on slightly damper clay so pretty easy digging with a 2.6t machine. Used 25 litres over 2 days to dig it. The 85 took 4 days to dig the bigger footings. At 40-50 litres a day. So really nothing in it for the same amount of work. Plus the mini would have taken at least 8 days for the same job.

This is the thing with bigger gear- they seem to cuff the fuel compared with mini's. I've done 3 days work (not flat out digging but plenty of tracking about etc) and have used half a tank (not much more than a jerry) in the TB228. Its pennies, so slightly sticks in the gullet when chucking can after can in the 8 tonner in a morning and not really feeling like your getting the corresponding amount of work out of it. Great when it's doing the business but using a sledgehammer to crack a nut becomes expensive.
Not sure whether i agree,doesnt really make sense, if your chucking can after can in an 8 tonner you must be getting something done or your using the wrong tool for the job.
If your using the right machine for the job then by définition its the most fuel/time efficient
Not to say i dont get where your coming from to a degree, I chose to drop to 6.5t from 8t because i felt i could get same out for less in but i dont think that really applies to 3t versus 8t.

Depends on the job I suppose.If I have both 8t and 3 t on a job its because the 8t has the lift capacity and brute force required for pulling stumps and lifting big rocks- no argueing that that is fuel well spent, however technically I could do the whole job with the 8 ton but for me that would be an expensive way of doing it because 60% could be done just as quickly with the 3 ton using 3x less fuel so it's worth having both machines there for that reason alone- also I could be in and out of a machine 100 times a day, much easier to slide out of a 3 tonner than the bigger one, I'm hoping my knees will thank me one day.

I understand, i have had 3t and 8t on jobs together for years , might end up in the middle like me ...3t not been out of shed since tilty went on 6t.
Out of interest what job can you do just as quickly with 3t as you can with 8t ?

Yeah can see that. You have your own transport though, if I'm paying/waiting around to get a machine moved I want the biggest thing I can get over a humpback bridge 😂

Started digging at 0730 today, 30mins at 1, stopped at 5 for an hour, then worked until half seven, used around 40-50l in my cx80c, working in H mode loading dump trailer, throwing clay and levelling it. A steady day. Really can’t complain about fuel use, a solid day with the ez26 with use 30-35l, so for an extra 15-20l you get a massive boost in person going from the 26 to the 80.

That sounds pretty good for a 8 tonner, working in a lovely spot like that must make it easier to do long days. (y)
