It's basically one of the land rovers isn't it possibly discovery sport ??

If so I think u may be very brave owning one out of warranty
The amount of little electric gadgets on them is ridiculous
Everything is computerized
There is an ecu just for the seat

It's not going to be the home mechanics wet dream. The days of taking one apart and rebuilding it in your lockup garage are gone forever.
There will be every bit of electronics Land Rover have developed thrown into it. Think they have already confirmed that all variants will have air suspension.

There won't be too many farmers buying these one's except they get conned into some form of false nostalgia for the brand.

P38 air is good ...... as long as it's behaving ;) ... bags're cheap and not a huge issue to fit ... EAS (electronic air suspension) fault on the dash used to be a PITFA ... until the DIY discs became available ... plug it into your lap top and clear it yourself.
TBF, only ever had it twice .... once my own fault ... when you know why/how, you don't do it a third time ;)

as for sales ... no I can't see many Giles,s using 'em to get around the sheep either

making machines look small since 1980
Funny enough i am going though something like this now but in reverse. I am getting shot of the old disco I currently have one the road and going back to a even old n reg vauxhall frontea short wheel base for the simple reason if it goes wrong then i can fix the thing myself then have to pay some garage a small fortune for replace the brakes cause they have to reset a computer in it

bitterly regret disposing of my two classic Rangeys .... nothing I couldn't fix on 'em and drove nicely (both on gas):) ... the Disco's going to get some attention shortly as that's nice and basic .... and fixable with a box of spanners. ;)
master cylinder required and'll get a new brake set up all round ... just disappeared one morning ... rubbers collapsed probably... they're so cheap for bits, master and calipers all round'll be less than 200 quid ... including a roll of copper and fittings ... job sorted (y)
totally agree with you on nice basic set ups

I've wondered if there will ever be a market for rebuilt older cars, tractors, excavators etc. For those people who dont go near the London low emission zone, the ability to buy a reconditioned vehicle would be very tempting. As cars get more complicated, their lifespan will shorten - probably to less than 10 years and they arent getting any cheaper to buy new.
If someone took a greycab jake, sorted all the rust out, rebuilt the engine, new bushes etc then fitted air con, SRS and the 40k gearbox and sold it for £40k you'd be very tempted against a new one at £50k plus.
Like wise for a Landcrusier - those things went on for ever and still kick the ass off anything that's come out since. The old Hilux was a bouncy old thing to drive but you couldn't fault it for reliability, up against the latest pickup offerings it would be very tempting. You know you'll get 20+ years out of it.
80's and 90's tractors...
The list goes on, I honestly think someone could do well with this idea, or maybe its nostalgia which might indicate I'm starting to get old and sound like my dad. Bloody Mars Bars have got smaller too!!! and music is s**t these days......

Some of us are still running kit from the 80’s & 90’s....:)

One of the old shoguns has sadly bitten the dust, Sterling service, over 200k and sadly it now has too many faults to make it worth repairing. Almost she’d a tear:cry: when I parked it up a few months ago, because they definitely don’t make them like that anymore.

We have been looking at new cars as our car is getting shot - warning lights that no one can turn off etc (we bought it quite new and intended to change it every 2 years which never happened) salesmen proudly show you all the crap on them and we just stand there looking at each other saying imagine when that dunt work what a PITA , so I have been looking at the possibility of buying a restored older car as an everyday car and the search goes on ,tricky to find the right sort of thing though

There already is decent demand for nice big old simple 6 pot tractors - look at price of something like Case IH 1455 on aggriaffairs !!

Kind of on the same lines.
This company is developing long life vehicles where the bodyshell has a life span of around 40 years and the rest of it gets constantly refurbished
I think this is the way that everything should go

To be honest I wonder how long a Tesla has to last to offset it's production emissions compared to a defender which really is the ultimate recyclable vehicle

well this has taken a very interesting turn  and totally agree with all of it .... (y)
as said, BITTERLY regret parting with my historic rangeys ... :(
my J plated 1970 RR ran great, drove like a new one and was simple to keep together -- chassis no 000964 .... WTF did i sell it??:mad:

often drove it and thought to myself, any Giles who bought one in 1970 must've thought they'd died and gone to landy heaven, compared to the the SII,s of the time and 40 years on, still soaked up the terrain, like it was a main road.

I'd put a much later interior in both of them and were very civilised, with O/drive on that bombproof LT99 box and LPG they'd just bowl along ... I'm gonna cry in a minute :cry:

@Gunners , there're already ppl doing refurbed vehicles and even an 'arm' of LR are selling bespoke restored landies and other vehicles (like early XJ Jags) of all types.
Had considered selling 'em my disco, as it's a rare one (200 made), but am deffo gonna keep it and do what's needed ... it's only done 40 k, I'm the second owner and 'til I had it, had never had a tow bar, or the back seats ever sat in ..... plus it has the best engine they ever made - the trusty 3.5 V8 ... and it's gassed :giggle: ...

totally with your " Bloody Mars Bars have got smaller too!!! and music is s**t these days...... " absolutely spot on (y)(y)

good question (y)
got passed by a Model X yesterday on the way to Cardiff ... much bigger vehicle than the ??????? , whatever it's called .. looked at one in Cribbs's showroom, the other week and was surprised how small it was
The X wasn't a bad looking bus ...... but!!

wonder what the feasibility is of taking something like a P38 or the like and replacing the engine, etc, with a leccy set up?? ... could be market for retro set ups perhaps ??

aye, hence the Q. .... have no idea WTF to replace current vehicles with  .... all are getting on, but reluctant to change .. the devil you know, etc. perhaps better to chuck money at a known quantity, than jump into the fire/inferno:oops:

at least you don't need a masters in astro physics to open the bonnet on the older stuff..........and some modern stuff the bonnet is bolted shut :eek: ... you'm not allowed in there :(
